COMPRESSOR

Post by aNT0JE »

i just bought an fmr ''really nice compressor'' yesterday that im gonna get in a week.
i was tired of using some free compressor vst's for my beats so i decided to get REALLL ANALOG TURNT UP SHIT.
i usually compress my mixes for final punchiness and to make it breathe more.
i was wondering what yall using for compression other than the sp's.
software ? hardware? yea. compressor thread homies

yea of course, i wanted to get that or the alesis 3630, but everybody seem to hate the 3630 so much (everybody aka gearslutz) apparently it does a lot of noise even when its on bypass, so i took the rnc.
what are you using for compression atm?

i have one 3630 because of the fact that gearslutz guys hated it :)

no, sincerelly, i bought it because i listen that daft punk guys had talked to used it for their first recording (that i like) and so i found it in an occasion like about 60€ 3 years ago. i don't use it very often now, but from what i remember gearslutz people hated it because they say that the 3630 "colours" the sound a bit much....for me this is not very bad, i take it more like a carctheristic than a negative point. i didn't noticed that noise they said....i fianally say that people wich prefers a proper/neutral sound maybe will not take the 3630....
anyway the rnc it should be a beast, isn't it?
another compressor i got is the joemeek3, i took it some years ago, they adviced me that to use it for vocals, more like a preamp on steroid, relatively low budget, it has a sort of valve compressor and an eq. so you coud use it also for (basic) multiband compression. i didn't used it just for vocals and , depending on the isntrument or hardware, you put in, the result changes...but i remember that coupled with the sp303 the results were astonishing!...
recently i put my feet in a studio to make a sort of stage and there they using a universal audio 6176 and a universal audio la 310...not exactly the same budget as the joemeek3 and the 3630 :) ...

i recently started to use the sidechain with the fmr. it's very useful. hooked up a very cheap graphic eq and now if i lower e.g. the bass frequencies on the eq the fmr mainly compresses the mids and highs. gives you punch without losing lows. nice little box...

DONGOLDMAN WIT DA VINYL SIM//////////

@rrr* : yea of course homie, also i know there's some videos floating around on youtube with a playing a drum break on bypass then with the compressor, THEN with the super nice function

@ellaguru : the 3630 seems very legit, the only thing that bugged me was the noise shit cause my tracks are already very busy so i wanted to get something neutral and effective plus i had the dough so yea, broke ass atm but who cares, im just gonna have to put more tobacco in my spliffs.

@squ!L: yo cant wait to use the sidechain function. ill have to get my hands on some mixer or multiple outputs shit...sigh

and yo them joe meek products seems veeery dope, GOTTA TRY ONE

404sx MFX12 :P

Sometimes I use the compression in pro tools that came with my m-audio capture interface. It sounds pretty good, but it's a bit of a hassle having to plug in the audio interface and everything just to launch pro tools.

yea i use mfx12 also but the way i process shit it loses dynamics and all.
then if i use mfx12 again it just sounds wack, so i compress the final mix when i bounce shit on the computer like vst's and all that. bought the rnc to replace that.

OR the 303 Vinyl Sim OR just the basic free compressor that comes with Fruity Loops.. I've never checked anything else out.. Too lazy to download or buy.

Onboard SP compression for me. I then "master" everything in Ableton with a compressor and limiter to make sure all the tracks sound consistent.

I use a FMR RNP (preamp) that is great, run right now into an ART Pro VLA II tube compressor that is alright but doesn't really blow my socks off. I end up using software compression like rocket, endorphin, camel crusher, rough rider and so on.
