I figured since I was stealing samples of cool songs, I should aswell steal a cool name too.

That's funny cuz I listen to hooded menace and was wondering if you knew that band or if your name was just a coincidence.

dope topic kel! cool to read all your guys explanations.
i was reading all the latin names in a book about animals to find a new writer name with weird letter combinations. found squilla mantis which is some kind of shrimp. stuck with squil and later found out it is kind of a short form for squirrel. all my american friends (i'm from germany) asked me why i chose this name. probably it sounds stupid and not very cool when you speak english. and recently i found this in the urban dictionary:
"Squil is a term meaning going without sex, with out action, or anything to do with not getting a piece under any circumstance.
Most "Squils" claim they are huge pimps, and pick up all the time. They will often try to put people down and say that they pick up a lot, and/or "that chick wanted me really bad, not you, me."
Most Squils are still virgins, and will remain virgins untill they lose there title of a Squil."
damn! thought about changing my name but what the hell...

sick post

is what it is

years back was recording a hook for a song .. used my name twice to fill the gaps in the melody

Kris - KRiS? - White .. like a question as to which Chris/Kris is in reference

the KRiS (capitals was a copy off NaS) but also signifies the inflated ego above the standardised use of 1 capital in people's names .. a powerful expression

well i like smoking wax, its made from weed but it's a lot stronger. it basically looks like earwax and thats why its called wax. it also melts when you smoke it. right around the time i got into smoking it i was attempting to make beats. so my names a combination of me "melting your earwax" with my beats/me smoking wax and watching it melt

I forgot i named him that, but I thought it looked cool, like it was blowing my mind lol, and it was the same week I got my 404... Well 6 years later its still stickin 8) I also like it since I got glasses its like I have a third eye but a four eyes... Fifth I yadda yadda

Really overthought mine. Had 3 reasons for picking up the long-form of my pseudonym (Unfolding Machines), but I've since forgotten the 3rd reason. Dropped the 'Machines' bit for brevity, plus the long-form sounds lame.

The two remaining reasons are:
- A dud theory for stopping the progress of prions in relation to diseases like Creutzfeldt–Jakob/Kuru & Alzheimers: protein unfolding reactions/devices.
- The video for Autechre's Second Bad Vilbel. I read an interview with it's director, Chris Cunningham back in '05 (when I started learning how to make music) he was discussing why he revised & re-edited the video. Can't find the interview, pity. He basically wanted to abstract the idea of a robot's components & disassociate it from human intervention. The way the video uses bokeh (the out of focus parts of an image), glitches & movement (the robot opening & apparently evolving) ripped my mind apart.

Come to think of it, the 3rd reason might've been a Godflesh reference. They referred to their samplers, synths & drum machines as a 3rd member called Machines.

One day, years ago, it just hit me. Came from nowhere and it's been ever since. Kerberos is a Finnish equivalent word for Cerberus.

whereabouts in Germany do you live?

i wouldn't worry about an urban dictionary definition...so many of those are obscure terms never actually used or understood by 99% of people  funny tho
