comp to sp

love editing drums in my DAW. when i go to sample from comp. to sp however, the signal is always distorted by some nasty buzzing sound. any ideas how to clean it up??

Are you using a desktop or laptop? If yer using a laptop try unplugging it from wall power. You might be getting some ground interference. Also, are you using a built in soundcard or an external 3rd party one? Sometimes built in sound cards are noisy. What happens when you just plug headphones into your computer and listen to the samples? Do you still hear the noise?

I am using a laptop, and also thought of unplugging it from the outlet but, the buzz remains. I am using the laptop's sound card, though I have an interface I could use if you think that'd help? Samples sound fine through the laptop..using headphones or plugging into speakers..but when I plug into my sampler it seems to want to buzz...

personally i always use my interface, it's a cleaner sound than the headphone jack IMO.

I had the exact same problem when I first started trying to get my beats into my laptop with my MPC. The line in sounded so bad I couldn't really believe how garbage the stock soundcard for my laptop actually was. I got an m-audio interface which sounded fine for what I need to do (although very overpriced for what it is). Speaking of which... Don't get an audio interface that can only input mono. I was pretty annoyed by how the lowest m-audio interface is intentionally crippled to get people to buy the slightly more expensive one when upgrading. Using a mono jack instead of stereo was a conscious design choice. Everything else on it is stereo e.g. the headphone jack and the rca outputs.

I'll admit I was just in a hurry to get beats on my computer and didn't really care what card I got, but make sure you get something you can use for awhile.
