Battle 131 - Shack Up After Hours

The music for this one is coming from a tape I snagged on my travels from an album called Night Rhythms by Sandy Owen, an obscure keys player who did a lot of contemporary jazz stuff in the mid-late 80's on Ivory Records. If you are from the states, the Weather Channel would frequently play his music while showing the automated local forcasts.

Download Sandy Owen - "After Hours" (note, it's hissy because it's recorded from cassette. ;) )

Then, the drums are from Shack Up, a classic everyone here has heard and likely has played with before. :)

Download Banbarra - Shack Up break

So shack up after hours. :D

[EDiT] I forgot to post the rules for this one. SP's only, bouncing to tape, PC or another SP is allowed. Minor vocal samples and scratching allowed, no outside synths, only sound generation provided by your SP(s) of choice.

I dig.
My SP is getting old. I've rocked it frequently for over 9 years. Many of the pads are very numb. My next SP-404 should be in the mail! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roland-SP-404-Power-Sampler-Effects-CF-Memory-card-/281062447033?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D261168188599%26ps%3D54

Should be here any day now so if I come up with a beat for this battle it may be one of my last on my first SP or my first on my second SP. I also will be buying my good mic back from a friend very soon. Exciting times for old Chopper! Where did TFA go? I wish he'd come back. His critiques were the best. If he comes back I'll make a trophy for him for being the best critic. Here's one for Hseiken.

nice sample! are you allowed to chop the sample in something like recycle or audacity, or only on the SP?

Chop on whatever you want to use, just final beat needs to be all SP. I'll let a little other mastering gear/software slide too. :)

If it would have fell out, my SP-trained karate-cat-like reflexes would surely have caught it before any damage was done. 8) ...yeah, pretty worn indeed. The only machine I've made beats with since I met her in 2004. We fell deeply in love until she became numb and exhausting. Ex SP to next SP and so on til my ending unless I'm immortal. <creepy...Then it would be 4  4 til infinity!!!

Life goes on... Also for SP's.

Anyways, can I get permission to low pass filter with the MPC or DAW? My 2nd pot broke from my 303 so I can't low pass filter with isolator or the EQ on it.. Also I'm totally not good in being an electrician to fix it and don't know where to get pot meters in my area (Of course I will find out!)

Of course, mang. Like, I'm not going to sit here and pick apart everything people do. If it sounds like it couldn't possibly be done on the 404, that's when I'll be like 'Wait a minute....' but for hardware issues where you substitute with equal effect, I'm not going to stop that. Hopefully you get the problem repaired or replace your unit (whichever is more feasible). It's sad when music gear is broken.
