KEYGATE SEQUENCER CHOP

alright so the microsampler lacks a mark button, and chopping by percent can be a hassle. the keygate is also not as cool as i thought it would be due to need for silences (it's still pretty dope though.) here's a workaround for mark-style chopping.

1. get your sample looped how you want
2. put sample into sequencer
3. put resample on, keygate on.
4. press play on the sequencer and the key you want the chop on
5. stop sequencer
6. press play, again, next chop, etc.

ULTIMATE 1 KEYBOARD PART WORKAROUND

alright so the 1 keyboard part can be a bitch. usually what is recommended is resampling the whole pattern and laying the next keyboard part on top, but as any SP user probably knows you can't adjust levels after resampling. here's a different method.

1. create your pattern, lay keyboard part on top.
2. mute EVERTHING EXCEPT keyboard part.
3. resample just the keyboard part
4. delete keyboard part off pattern from step one
5. now just start the pattern, push the key with the keyboard part on it at the appropriate time, and you have the keyboard part on the pattern, the keyboard mode is now free, and all levels remain adjustable.

Something else worth saying about the keyboard mode

I find myself making a bunch of patterns and if my keyboard sample is not on the first note I always have to find it before recording/sequencing the keyboard part of I always get a bad suprise...

workaround? EASY!

Start sampling your stuff around the left E and keep/resample your keyboard samples on C or D so you don't have to go around each time.


USING MIDI AND OTHER SYNTH!!

Never forget that your sequencer also sequence midi and it's really easy to add a synth layer to you keyboard sequence! Make sure you set your midi channel right in the global (or whatever it's called) menu! i usually leave it to 2 and set my shruthi-1 to midi channel 2 exclusively.

of course you gotta make sure your keyboard part sample are tuned (or NOT).

Hey guys, stopping in to put my name down!

Working on nothing but a microsampler at the moment and really loving it! It's kinda like an SP in many ways, but overcomes alot of limitations (pattern track mute! yes!)

Going to add a couple more bits eventually but just trying to get down with this biatch so far!


I have a question about the software - is there a way to set the gate/oneshot/etc setting when you load a sample via software (or after on the MS)? It seems to default to gated but i want alot of it to be oneshot and the only way i can figure to change it is by resampling.

can't you change the release setting from 0 to 127 on the ms to let the sample play out? (don't know exactly if that's what you want)

yeah, technically I guess you can do it that way... it just seems weird that there's no option to set what kind of sample it is except for while recording/resampling.

that's true. i don't know why it even has these 3 different sample types if you can change it via editing (gate/oneshot) or simply pressing a button (loop). maybe i missed something...

recent cool stuff i did with keygate sampling:
put a drumbreak on and hit the keys randomly without timing. then i would try to play a steady rhythm with the recorded samples (without trimming) which would sound like a drunken drummer. recorded my "playing" and came up with some weird swinging "funky" breaks which i never could have programmed like that. took me a while to catch some "good" ones though.
