Flash drive for Yamaha SU700 works!

Post by dimXL »

May be it is interesting for somebody - I have got SU700 with flash drive that works.

The model of drive is GOTEK, the same is in this discussion -

http://www.ex5tech.com/ex5ubb_cgi/ultim ... 1&t=000135

I can save and load from drive 1,4 mb files, so far I can not save bigger files although SU700 could save/load bigger files with multiple floppy disks.
The volume of flash card divided to 100 - 1,4 mb subvolumes. I tryed many USB cards and all of tham worked fine.

I hope this info will be useful :D

The SU700 is especially good for FX, great sound and work with loops.

If you plan to buy it I advice to check operation system (1.03 is latest) and 12 encoders (weakest component of SU700).

I got the same drive and got it to save / load multi-disk songs by connecting the original floppy drive and the emulator at the same time using an old cable that could connect two floppy drives at once. I got lucky with the cable- it's tricking the yamaha somehow, but it works! (Power connected to the emulator, no power to the original floppy drive) I suspect the floppy drive is just bridging / separating some pins.

Is the original floppy set to slave, master or pin select? Same goes for the CF drive, what is it set to?

I have the same drive as analogueak and I got multi-floppy saves working on my SU. After a lot of head scratching I noticed that the jumper supplied with the drive had it on S1 - meaning it was selected as the 2nd drive for the floppy controller. This would explain why connecting the original would make it work right - since that'd be set to be drive 0. Once i jumpered S0 only, I was able to save and load from multiple discs. I also formatted the stick with the software and then allowed the SU to format each disk image.

aw man I swear I tried every combination of jumper settings, but I'll have to look closer- do you have any pics of the jumper you used?

Hi! I also installed the GOTEK floppy emulator, and it seems to save different disks on the USB stick, but when I load them it says "operation failed". I think it must be something about the partitions or formatting on the USB disk... anyone can explain me ho to do the partitions properly?
