Has anyone figured out a way to have more than 5 sounds playing all at once without the sequencer going off beat. I chop my ass off with majority of beats due this problem. But I really think it limits(as well as screws up) alot of beat potential. Any way around this? It drives me nuts when it glitches due to this fact.

Are you talking loops going out of sync?

I find you just gotta keep it simple on the SP-404 and all goes well.

Yeah I mean loops going out of sequence or even it glitches to a point where it goes off beat and adds an extra 4 bars on to it. where it goes 1-4 then repeats a 4 count again.

Does the 404 have a 'BPM SYNC' function for loops? The reason I ask is because the 606 does exactly that if you don't set up the loop properly using 'BPM SYNC'..

What is the version number of your system? I'm not sure if this will solve it, but you may want to look into downloading the latest firmware for the SP-404 off of Roland's Web site.

i guess you have your bpm wrong. press the pattern button, then press bpm and make the timing the same as your loop... default timing will på 102bpm every time you turn on your sp-404 for some stupid reason...

that's my guess..

As far as I know there is no "BPM SYNC" but if I match the sample BPM it usually works fine. My problem is not getting it to loop but if I have too many sounds playing (mainly over 4 or 5 sounds) it glitches off beat and stays that way, then I have to replay it again. I am not sure what version of the 404 OS I have but I will try the OS upgrade and hopefully that solves it. I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this bug. And the whole thing where the counter goes bezerk and adds an extra bar is just bizzarre to me. I know this machine has it's limits but this seems a lil weird to me. P.S. Is there any way to change sample spped on this? Cuz pitch will slow the sample pitch down but not the BPM. I STILL LOVE THIS MACHINE but I just am a lil frustrated with these problems at times.

The pitch shifter of the 404 IMO is doodoo plain and simple.

ah now i think i know, the poyphony!
the sp-404 have 12note polyphony. that means you can only play back 12 pads at a time. each stereo sampe will take up space for 2 pads so if all your samples are in stereo you will only be able to play back 6 samples at a time..

ahhhhh!!! I was wondering why sometimes I could do more sounds and other times I could'nt. So lo-fi more can fly. I kinda figured that but I was just seeing if it might be something else. Thats what kinda bugs me is the fact that there is so much sample time and you have limited sample use.

The more u use chops the less soon you will run out of voices. Keep your drum sounds mono that also helps a lot.
