For me Sonic youth nirvana ot me obsessive with music. Then Massive Attack and Portishead got me into electronic music then Boards of Canada and Dj shadow ade me want to get a sampler.Seems most people have similar music backgrouds here
Re: Who inspired you to make music?
Nirvana and Ramones made me want to play guitar, then I got into heavier and faster music which led me to harsh noise, which became my passion for a few years. From making noise I went to other genres of electronic sound and music. So I had a try with breakcore, dubstep, psytrance etc. but I sucked. Then I came across lofi sp-beats and it was really my thing, so now I'm trying this. Still thinking of going back to noise though, because I've never been so in love with sounds before, it's just not as challenging as music.
Re: Who inspired you to make music?
I got my mom to buy me a keyboard when I was 10 or something without any specific inspiration. Later on I would've liked to play in a band but none of my friends and me managed to actually buy instruments
So when I was 18 I finally bought a bass to make similar music to Deftones. Musicwise they were the biggest influence in my life, I guess.
Six years ago then I got myself a 404 and combined that with my bass guitar and the electric guitar I got in the meantime. I decided to buy a sampler after getting into Anticon and realising how they do their beats and how many of their producers involved all kinds of sources for their samples. Jel, Alias and Odd Nosdam would be the guilty ones here.
Ha, a good friend of mine used to listen to that as well

Re: Who inspired you to make music?
shiit my friend showed me some beats, probably knxwledge and just lofi beats, i was instantly hooked. discovered brainfeeder and just checked out every single artist that was signed and liked most of them. most were on soundcloud so i discovered all the amazing artists on soundcloud. my buddy told me 404s were mostly made for the shit i liked, picked one up and found these forums.
basically you guys inspire the shit outta me...
edit: slf tapes and dirty tapes as well.

Hieroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Mystik Journeymen, Grouch & Eligh, Log Cabin Crew, Living Legends, Blackalicious, Latryx, Dj Shadow, Bay Area Art Collective(BAAC), DJ Beni B of ABB records, Lootpack, Beatjunkies.....but my old brain has seen to much weed to come with more off top that are heavy beat influences. I also tried to highlight artists from my area that people need to hear. OH, of course MADLIB in every form, Dilla, MF Doom, CloudDead, Anticon.
Re: Who inspired you to make music?
Shit, forgot to mention another mate in my first post. Dude who studied at a conservatorium & knew how to play pretty much every instrument ever. Smart bastard...
We used to get drunk every other weekend & one hungover morning in '06 he had a bass guitar lying around. I picked it up & tried playing it, badly. He steps to show to me some basic theory & riffs. Made me realise how important some basic theory is. We wrote two songs that afternoon (both Kyuss ripoffs). If he didn't show me that shit, I'd have given up making music years ago out of frustration.

Re: Who inspired you to make music?
1979-1991: michael jackson
1992-1994: nirvana
1995-1999: pete rock, rza, the roots, mobb deep
2000-2013: madlib
funny how many people love both madlib and nirvana. two totally different genres, but both have a similar formula to their sound: dirty ass lo-fi production mixed with highly melodic arrangements
