555 to PC

Post by JSplifz »

Whut's up guys? I just got the 555 bout a week ago. I love it! It's the shit. But Im having a bit of trouble with actually hooking it up to my laptop for recording on Sonar LE or FL Studio. This is my first sampler so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Fl is a bitch to record track into in my experience.
I haven't used sonar but I know it's a great program for recording, I'd just run a rca 2 line cable into the line in jack on the back of your computer and then open sonar and arm a track for recording at which point you should be able to play some sounds on the 555 and check the levels in sonar. If the levels are not peaking or clipping than your ready to record, so just hit the record button and off you go. That's kinda generalized for a description so if you have more specific questions let me know and I'll download sonar and find out exactly how to do it in that program.

No you don't need rca on you soundcard homie, and Rca to Line cable will hook up to your sound card. The line side of the cable is just a normal 1/8th inch headphone jack and it will plug into your soundcard's jack with the green ring around it. This way you can record what you do live into sonar, but if you just want to transfer a beat you made on the 555 in the pattern sequencer I believe you can just transfer it to the computer via usb cable. Dj frantic will know for certain about the usb though. Let me check online real quick in the meantime.
Looks like you can't export a beat through usb from the roland site, but if I know sp's there's a trick to do it especially on that sp.

No problem, if you want more in depth help send a private message to Dj Frantic and I'm sure he'll kick some knowledge down. I know Vivi is fresh on the 555 too, but she seems to check in less seeing as she does a lot of live shows and actually has a life unlike myself.

you dont need to run RCA out of the 555 to record. When you isntall the drivers and plug the usb into the computer it acts as an external sound card. so you will be able to record thru the usb. You just have to set the 555 as your sound card in the settings of your recording software.
