Who inspired you to make music?

Post by melodious »

Well my parents always listened to metal around me so I used to listen to a lot of metallica, etc. But then I made a soundcloud because I heard about a producer named Ta-ku and I was really inspired by him. He definitely made me want to make music.

Memorecks for sure. I always enjoyed watching his videos when he still rocked the old MPC1000, Trigger Finger or MPD24.

Really stoked everytime I watched him and thought: "Why not do it myself?" and so I did. Thanks to him I have a really intresting and passionate hobby.

Weirdly enough Nigel kennedy made me pick up a violin when I was like six! That didn't last long but the obsession started there. I think probably Trent reznor, he was the first person that made me think 'shit, you don't need a band, you can do it all on your own!' Pure genius

large pro, premier, diamond, shadow, grand puba, marley marl, and prince paul got me into beats and eventually made me interested in where all the samples came from, so I started listening more to jazz, soul, and psych stuff. But the record that actually forced me to go out and buy a sampler was quasimoto unseen. I went crazy when that shit came out, and by that time I'd collected some of the sounds on the record, which I figured was a good sign.

An Owl. Then DJ Shadow, Boards of Canada & Pitchshifter.

An Owl for posting me a cracked copy of Reason 2 with a huge library of classic funk breaks & reminding me about BoC. Big, expensive downward spiral from that point on. 8)

Shadow for the moment when I realised that music can be made from other music. BoC for the home made sound (you don't need to be a pro to make music).

Pitchshifter because on a couple of albums they gave away royalty free samples. You'd play through an album & then at the end you'd hear all these buzzing synths, open drum fills, home made percussion & bass guitar riffs. It was very IDM & heavy metal oriented stuff, but super cool of them to do. Got me thinking 'what do you do with this crap?!'

The Prodigy were the first "band" that really got me into the idea of making electronic music. realising what you could do with technology was inspiring.

Massive Attack were another electronic band that mesmerised me too.

What got me into making beats and hip hop was first listening to Entroducing by Shadow. Realising what you could actually do with other people's records was mind blowing!

Neophyte---old stuff with a 909 and guitar pedals.
Ophidian---- doing live hardcore sets with a synth and a mpc

Started of making kick drums, and trying to get them as dirty as possible.
That led to other things now,

Went to school with some guys called blithe field & mr leg. Saw them play live a couple of times on SP's and MPC's. Played some really great stuff i couldn't quite put a genre to.

Well in 2008 i went to this record shop called PooBah Records. I was just looking for some lounge records, because lounge records are relaxing as fuck, and as soon as i walk in here is this dude sitting down in front of a tiny table with a bunch of magazines, sharpies, scissors, and blank cd's. so im super curious as to what this guy is selling and i go up to him and ask him how much he's selling his cd's for, i think he said they were 10 but he was cool with taking 5 as long as i told nobody, and i bought one...
took it home, listened, it was great, and inspired me into making beats(although i creeped these forums, soundcloud, myspace, and spacenvaderprod before i started actually making beats in 2011).

the guy who sold me the cd was samiyam, and the cd was rap beats vol. 1.
