Synths and playing

Post by dudebrux »

Hey guys, been thinking about this for a while but does anyone have any tips or any links to tutorials that will help me pick up playing keys/synth ect?

I have a Novation Xiosynth that i'm pretty hapy with my but i'm really keen to be abvle to get to a level where i can play live along with the SP. Dont get me wrong i'm not a complete noob, i mean i know all the keys and a few chords and stuff but really want to takle my playing to the next level or at least a level where i can play out.

Check out this video:

THats the sort of thing i want to be doing. Is it just gonna be hard work and perseverance or does anybody have any tips on picking up basic key playing pretty quickly?
You dont know how far you can go until you go

first thing:
i don't like guys that make people think that they're overbusy, moving 3000 knobs in one sec (with the sp555 in that case) but doin nothing special in reality
second thing:
the way he plays is not very interesting (or at least, not very difficult to achieve), just some notes plus a cut off filter here and there...

i got a xiosynth too.
if your difficulty is to make/write sounds with it, i can tell you that just begin with mix the 3 osc tones (also with different pitches) together with filter and amp and you could reach good result just with that. After this step go ahead to your way, discovering/making errors (cool errors sometimes) with sounds...
if the difficulty is"playing", well, i'm not the one abel to help you because i just play "with ears" and i don't know notes/chords and techniques etc....sorry...

I think the best thing for you to do is just play around and practice. The more you do something the easier it will become. I think sometimes we want to shortcut to things (I am guilty of that myself). Afta-1 is really dope but I doubt he plays all his stuff live from the 555 maybe he plays a few sounds or chords along with his set but not a lot.
You probably heard of Dorian Concept, his sets are pretty interesting here's a little set he did.

but yea man just keep at it and have fun.

I really like afta 1. Simple synths and concrete drum tracks. If you camt play synths, sample the sounds and sequence with fx. Even funner than remembering chord progressiOns, just sample the chords.
