i once used the djfx looper to get a guitar sound out of a song with out taking the whole measure, like if you just loop it off one note in the riff it could sound like they are chugging just that one note

my new fav is tape echo - turn the 3rd knob all the way to the right, the second one all the way down, and the first one all the way to the right. now you can tweak the first one similarly to the djfx 2nd knob but with different sounding effects it also applies this sound i cant quite pinpoint to the sample, and the second knob when turned about half way up will act as a cooler delay. so its kind of like getting the dj effect and delay at the same time

ive also been into putting the delay on the back 16 or 32 and turning the balance up all the way and then putting the middle knob up sporatically when needed, its kind of like a looser bpm looper

also lo fi because you can make electronic synths sound analog

SLICER...Especially applying it to an ext source(ie. my synth) while rocking patterns...it stays in tempo...brilliant effect...it's also good to apply it to other samples in a pattern to give it a nastier more choppy vibe...

Isolator does it every time for me, it lets you pre-eq each part and mix in the box pretty well.

Isolator for sure. I'm always on that low end theory.

One thing I've been usin more is the Tape Echo. I recently obtained an OLD ass mini air organ, recorded it to the 303 with a $10 radio shack mic, then with some tape echo it is fuckin ILL. I'll post a beat with the organ sounds soon.

i'm a brand new SP user...in my opinion, vinil sim is the best (the compressor sounds dope) the lo-fi effect is very sick, isolator and eq are cool too...but now my favorite effects are vinil sim & lo fi.

is DJFX numbah 23? if so, i use that a lot. i keep one beat going steady, and usually a duplicate running into FX23. change the position of the drop (ie: 2, 5, etc.) and turn it "on" over the ends of bars, to keep a little glitchy stutter hap'nin. also, by having a dupe running into clicksncuts it allows you to switch back if you wanna drive the track ahead suddenly.

this mofo and reverb are my mains.

what i miss is the ease of the "filter" effex on the 202 tho.

the one i really liked was just a simple bass/treb filter, which is in the 404 filters somewhere, but on the 202 it was one button, one knob. so you could just hit it mid-loop, to make a snare sound super hollow, or pop it in on a sampled guitar part to boost its frequency above the mix. the key was that it was right there, so you could be doing other stuff and just hit it to mix fings up a bit.

the fx still kickin around on the 404, but it was simpler on the 202 (to me, at least).

Yeah, I second that shit. I love the filters on the 202 because it's only one knob. It's also why I like the vinyl sim a lot because I only use the compressor, so that's essentially one knob too. I like to have the additional knobs to control parameters but sometimes it feels like too much and I work for a while to hit that "sweet spot".

i've had my Effect Limit Mode on lately (hold Cancel and MFX to toggle on/off). some of the 404's effects can get a bit shrill (especially the filter), so having the Limiter on restrains the crazy peaks some effects will create

Fauna - that's the BPM Looper you're talking about, DJFX is #24. that's definitely a sick trick though, gotta love #23 for the glitchy rhythm twists

did you know the Lo-Fi effect (#14) has a 1-knob filter?

if you turn knobs 1 and 2 all the way to the left (ie off) you are left with a filter on knob 3!

[FILTER + DRIVE] and the [RING MOD], I use those a lot. I play the [F+D] a lot like a scratch, you can hear it in some of my band's tracks ("Cowgirl Blues" specifically ends with me 'playing' the cut-off).

I like [CHROMATIC PS], but that's mainly because it's so 'unrealistic'. You can use it to create some monstrous sounds-- as long as you're willing to give up sounding anything like the original sample.

[REVERB] is key, too.
