I currently own the sp-303, and I love it. My only real complaint with it is the distortion/rumble/smearing sound that occurs when you adjust most of the inbuilt effects in real time.
For most 'set and forget' purposes this makes no difference, but if you want to change effects live and create sweeping effects etc, it's frustrating.
I wanted to ask - does this also happen on the 505? I believe the 404 solves this problem, so I wanted to ask you guys.
Also, big questions for a small paragraph perhaps, but is the 505 essentially a more fully featured version of the 303, or are there some significant differences that make it a different beast?
Thanks for the help!

Re: SP-505 Effects Noise
maybe that noise is just some dust on the pots.
in general the sp505 is most powerfull that the 303. i have both and i can say that the approach is different on them. while the 303 is more "live and direct", the 505 is more for building up tracks thanks to his cool sequencer and the pattern/song mode. another difference is that the 505 got that weird algorhyhtmical pitch function (the only sp to have that): sometimes is useful, sometimes not very, depending on the sample and on how much do you want to "go far" from the root note.
other than that they got the same fx, but on a live situation the 303 is better and immediate for this.
the 505 sounds less puchy thatn the 303.

Re: SP-505 Effects Noise
yeah, they have the exact same fx engine.
Toraiz SP-16, SP-606, SP-505, Kaossilator KO2

Other difference: you can copy samples between pads on the 505, you're not forced to resampke everytime.
