power supply ?

So the dog my kids got for Christmas chewed through my chord..the one that goes out from the 404 into the box thing... I plugged it up to a regular 9v chord and it worked fine.so if a regular old chord works why does the 404 come w 2 chords connected in the middle my the box thingy? Just wondering if these something I need to know so nothing gets ducked up.thanks

yo the box thingy is just an adapter. Your 3rd party cord is prob got a fat plug in box converting the power. same thing just not split up.
