Processing kicks.

Any way to fatten up a kick or process it in a way to get it punchy yet bassy? I always end up with the isolator and compressing the shit out of it, but can't really think of a new method (except for the same but with the equalizer)..

Any one feels like sharing his knowledge?

i've learn the same methods.
another one could be to add a little reverb just before compressing. compressing is always at the end.

throw some iso or sim on the kick so its super low and boomy, then pitch it up in a different sampler with real pitch, then you got a super punchy kick.

I (sometimes) have sucess taking the kick and putting the c cancellor on it w/ lo cranked up and hi all the way down and layering it with the original kick. The layering has to be just right tho if there directly on top of eachother itl sound like shite.

radio tuner with all knobs at zero usually adds bass and could give some punch. its a lo fi effect but it sounds better on snares. i mostly just use the eq and isolater on kicks

Subsonic effect. Dial it and tune it right and it makes shit bump. Turns any kick into a thumper

this is cool, but the 303 haven't got any subsonic effect...

Great tips guys! Definatly gonna try and use them in the process.

Also, I recently found out how to layer kicks on the 303.. At first I thought you could only resample one pad. Untill I saw the video on building tracks on it with resampling.. Felt really silly afterwards.

That was going to suggest that. Sometimes I'll take a kick or sound and resample it to a second pad, Isolate and eq them both... One snappy and one with more of the low tone, then resample them together with some eq on one or both, then resample again with compression. Fun stuff.
