Is it possible to take a pattern recording on the 404sx?

I'm able to take the samples but I'm having a problem with taking the patterns. Is it even possible to do it?

take, as in export it? pretty sure you can't do that, atleast on the 404 you can't.

run rca out to your headphone jack on computer and record into audacity or whatever program..

When I record in Audiacity it works but it sounds awful. It's just a bunch of buzzing and other noises. Do you know how to fix it?

You should look into buying a USB soundcard/ interface, nothing too fancy to start with, internal sound cards pick up all kinds of noise with being close to all the other electronic parts. But make sure when recording to get the volume of the sampler so it's not too loud that its distorting and not too low that you pick up more noise when you eventually higher up the volume. This whole process is called 'gain staging'. Recording is like a separate art itself, you can learn a lot through Internet tutorials.

Internal soundcards of PC's are notoriously crap.

Look into getting a cheap USB audio interface and you should be fine :D

take sd card out .. put into pc/laptop - if you don't have a card reader .. it's cheaper than a deecent audio interface. . plus you know audio is gonna be exactly how it was in the SP

Ive been through two crap card readers where I have bent the pins. Any suggestions on a card reader with a rugged build that can take abuse?

You have to be careful with CF. The pins are always going to be fragile.

Until you get a external soundcard try installing asio4all, it's free and might correct your issue without another purchase. This will solve your issue, it acts as a usb audio interface and adds a couple nice features like phantom power and compression/eq on board.
