it's nothing brand new ,but the fad is fairly new. all the stuff ppl been postin is all examples of trap some is well executed and some is generic . but to explain it's beats with heavy 808's ,160 bpms hihats on 1/32 triplets , snare rolls and brass or horn stab hits. but nowadays the new thing is throwing arpeggios and ambient sounds on top of that drum format. but it's much what triple 6 mafia beats sound like minus the effects in the 90's.

Re: trap music...
Totally get it now, didnt know it was called "trap music". Just thought it was down south beats or at least formatted beats since most usually sound the exact same as far as drops and changes. The 808 mkit snare rim shot drop is in everything now. I heard it in a fucking KIA commercial a while back.
Re: trap music...
think young jeezy is a pioneer of this style.
also another trap artist is waka flocka flames, i dont listen to much of this though, but jeezys "my hood" knocks hard!

Re: trap music...
I def wouldn't consider Earl or Tyler "trap artist"..
Like stated previously, it's not a new sound. It started in the south, specifically Atlanta probally about 8 or 9 years ago with dudes like Zaytoven, Shawty Redd, Nitti then later on with Lex Luger, Drumma Boy, ..etc.. You def have alot of new artist incorporating southern techniques in their production, which is cool (Clams, Balam, Lunice, etc). I grew up in Florida, so you'd litterally heard it (trap, screw, bounce) everywhere..so its kinda one of those things where you are like "trap music?..oh, ok" - but, i understand its all music so here are my recs:
Gucci Mane - Trap House **classic**
OJ Da Juiceman - The Otha Side of the Trap
Jeezy - Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101
Lil' Scrappy - Bred 2 Die Born 2 Live
Plies - Da REAList

Re: trap music...
hi guys,
my little brother and nephews always talk to me about TRAP, they listen to it all day on their mobile telephone speakers , with little stoned eyes , bangin their head , makin beats in fruity loops. Then they tell me to make trap 2, i always tell them about my sp , but they dont understand the style. A generation difference i think.
But yeah , sometimes it sounds good , i think its good for the clubs and get drunk and dance nasty , they put it in p0rnoflicks 2 THE NEW HYPE.
checkout their soundcloud for some TRAP: http://soundcloud.com/indowbeats-1 & http://soundcloud.com/lilwizzle-1
did was also a favorite HARDCORE TRACK of me back in the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tntRTRkp2GY DIZZY RASCAL - I LOVE U, all before dubstep!
