other musical interests
Other than beats, what kinda music are you into? Here's my list...
Metal- I'm actually a huge metalhead, I like cannibal corpse, cephalic carnage, municipal waste, burzum, darkthrone, finntroll and ensiferum to name a few.
Rap/hip hop- andre nickatina, Mac dre, wu tang, earl sweatshirt
Rock- the doors, frank Zappa, jimi Hendrix, primus
Jazz- weather report, Dave Brubeck, return to forever, al dimeola, jaco pastorius
I also listen to dub step fairly frequently and other techno and electronica.

Used to be a huge fan of harsh noise and experimental/improvised music. Now I'm mostly listening to psytrance, hip-hop and I'm also getting into shoegaze. But I enjoy most of the other genres too.

Re: other musical interests
Jazz stuff, mostly Coltrane and his countless disciples (shep, pharaoh, Marion brown etc.), miles, and ornette coleman. anything on ESP disk, saturn, or the actuel series, and my weak spot, cheesy cti records stuff.
Early 1980s thrash & hardcore like dri, ssd, dischord records, bad brains. I play drums in a band called Just Die! that sounds like a more modern version of that stuff.
Dub and reggae like the congos, king tubby, scratch perry, scientist, up to guys like mad professor and king jammy.
Noise rock stuff like sonic youth, early swans, the first three public image ltd albums, gang gang dance, liars, etc.
Pop music, hifi like yo la tengo, the smiths and Jens lekman, or lofi like beat happening, Akron/family, microphones. Animal collective kinda does both these days...
1960s/70s psych stuff like silver apples, gong, soft machine, any kraut rock like guru guru, can, or kraftwerk
1960s/70s soul stuff and the new school variety from folks like daptone and truth & soul. Also, pretty much anything on número group is worth the cash.
Perfect topic for record nerds!

@ellaguru: I had to look at your list to not repeat anything. We seem to be into the same stuff. Great minds think alike
Re: other musical interests
JAZZ!! 70's stuff mostly; Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutcherson, Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, Sun-Ra, Ahmad Jamal, Thelonious Monk, Ron Carter. Also love Yesterday's New Quintet, and Madlib's Blue Note Album.
Re: other musical interests
Pretty much everything right now... Doom, grind, indie, pop and all the shit in between. Although I rap and make beats don't listen to much hip hop right now. Take a lot of inspiration from funk and old school electro for my lyrics and beats, but really who knows what's inspiring us

as far as heavy music is concerned, i love shit like arab on radar, daughters, an albatross etc. i'm into most atonal music, whether it is classical serialism, experimental noise shit like lightning bolt, grindcore, or electronic drone shit.
i also play a bunch of accordion and banjo. pretty into the crusty old tymy stuff.

Re: other musical interests
All kinds of different/wierd/odd/obscure stuff, listening to things to sample other than 70s Soul.
I dig 20s Swing, Big Band of the 30s-40s, 60s love songs, 70s Rock, and 80s Metal. Indie Punk, garage band, Seatle Grunge.
I'm in love with early to mid 90s hip hop and Chicago gospel.
Military marching drums
Latin, South American, Mexican brass band and maraccas.
Strings, organs, horns of Classical.
Jazz bass lines.
