there's a video on youtube for it. search for mpk mini editor ...

You need to use the mpk mini editor program to really program and arrange the buttons/programs/ etc.

(I wish there was a way to assign the transport buttons (rec/play/>>/<<) to the mpk)

The 202 only receives midi, you can sequence it with a daw but not the other way.

exactly.
"midi in" means that an hardware machine can only receive midi messages from other machines/softwares. so, that "incoming midi messages" i don't know about them...

To sequence is to put a series of notes into an electronic instrument. Some electronic instruments can send notes to other electronic instruments.

In this case you can write a series of notes in Logic that (when everything's hooked up right) will make the SP-202 play the sounds you've put on to its pads.

A sequencer is a device or program that can control other devices. It doesn't make sound, it contains commands for other instruments. The SP-202 doesn't contain a sequencer, hence why you have to push the SP-202s buttons to get sound (and why it doesn't have a dedicated 'play' button).
