Resampling and keeping samples in time

Hey guys

First of all thanks to everyone for posting tips which I have already been wading through, but I'm having some issues incorporating the 404sx into my workflow as I'd planned, and perhaps I've been expecting too much from the machine..

Basically I want to incorporate resampling quickly and easily into my production via the 404sx, whilst also using yhe machine to trigger various backing loops for live performance, as such....

Firstly compose the loops on my computer and export to the 404 at the specified tempo, ie drum loop, verse bass, chorus bass, synth riff all at same bpm...

Then use the 404 Fx and resample loops in the machine, until I have a set of resampled loops all at the same tempo to use for live arrangements.

However, when I resample, obviously you have to hit record to end resampling and use the start/end function to tidy up the loops.....I can't get this accurate enough for the loops to all stay in time and they all drift out of sync...

Do I really have to export the resampling loops back in to the computer to tidy them.up properly and then back AGAIN into the sampler, to keep everything synced, or am I missing something? I was inspired to buy it after seeing teebs live and was thinking this was the way I could incorporate the 404 but now I feel a bit lost....thanks in advance!

Some of the loops I'm using by the way are 16 bars long, would I be better off using just short 4 bar loops?

Just gotta use the mark button and the start/end knobs... no easier way that i know of

generally you want short loops 2 or 4 bars to keep in sync easier, longer samples will drift unless your start points are 101% perfect . and even then they might drift.

you could sequence the loops in the pattern sequencer. This would keep everything in time.

I think you need to think a bit about how to use the 404 to play live. I wouldn't export every single track and trigger them at the same time. When I play live I'll have the drumloop by itself, then a couple of pads with the chopped up sample over the top that I can play freely.

I think in that Teebs video (is it the away from home one?) He's not really doing much other than messing with the fx

Thanks guys....yeah I'm still trying to figure it out....I've played with it similar to eloquant there in that video but was hoping to use longer loops so I could juggle singing and some live synths too..I guess it's just finding route through...i'll try the mark button again and use the pattern sequencer....if I hit a wall I may well be back!

Oh and Preqwal, yes I've seen that video and teebs is mainly playing with the Fx amounts for sure...I saw him live in the summer and was intrigued by the little grey box and the control it gave him over the tracks...I wasn't intending to start all the loops at the same time, just kind of like in the elaquent video but a bit more spaced out...anyway thanks for the link, great vid
