Re: New Open Challenge?
Im working on my beat now... OC or not...
No I dont think we should allow synths etc.
Lets focus on the drum samples and sampling old games.

This is explained well now; if it's just sp+samples this in NOT an OC. It's clearly said. Guys let's do just a new SP beat tape, no?gis_sweden wrote:Im working on my beat now... OC or not...

Re: New Open Challenge?
im feeling that gis
we should just keep it simple and do just the sample and drums. no need to get to complicated.
plus you all should check out previous resample challenge. i think that the sp can make a baseline if you really put your mind to it.
i cant wait to pull out some dusty games from my gameboy shoe box.

Re: New Open Challenge?
alright lots of back and forth on this.
do we need a new OC thread, or Freedom of speech thread?
I think neo-geo is ok, n64 well...I dunno maybe i'm old but i was hoping for the grittier old video game sound.
I dont care either way about bass/synth or not....but i do think by not allowing it, ppl who don't have access have a better chance, and SP ninjas know how to make a bassline using tricks
If someone wants to take the initiative and setup a new thread using the rules posted and links to those drums that would be great, i've never done an SP beat tapes thread.

Re: New Open Challenge?
a new thread would be better i think, so we can involve all sp heads for a new sp beat tape: it's been a long time we didn't make one...blavatsky wrote:alright lots of back and forth on this.

Synth or not i can make a bassline... synth just provides more options. Either way its cool.

A huge collaboration for a 16-bit themed SP tape would be dope!

Re: New Open Challenge?
Sounds cool, but I don't have an SP anymore. The open challebge could do with more gear being allowed lol.

OK Ella's right, let's do this separate to an open battle (sorry for hijaking your idea, Blav!).ellaguru wrote:a new thread would be better i think, so we can involve all sp heads for a new sp beat tape: it's been a long time we didn't make one...blavatsky wrote:alright lots of back and forth on this.

If nobody minds I'll start a Freedom Of Speech thread with Blav's samples. No probs about a poll to see who's beat's the beat because you can set them up there.
Too much back & forth about games. Blav got the rules right the first time:
Don't publish your beat anywhere else first. Once you've done your beat, PM a box.net link to me. In 3 weeks or so (Christmas Day? New Year's Day?). I'll post the results all at once. Make sure you submit a wav or aiff file so we don't end up with inconsistent & crappy sounding MP3s.blavatsky wrote:Rule #1 have to use SP, only 1 allowed
Rule #2: Use these homemade drums samples

Rule #3: Only video game samples, cannot be past 16 bit systems (ie, use gameboy, atari, snes, genesis, nes and back)
You can use several, don't have to cite them all but would be cool to know the main source(s).
I think we can leave out the bass or synths, plenty to sample on games
Who wants to make a cover for it?
Oi Ella, do you have the power to unsticky the last beat tape from the Freedom Of Speech section?
If anyone's against any of this speak up quick. I'm gonna commit this to the rest of the forums real soon.
Re: New Open Challenge?
Hello,
If I use the gameboy than I have access to all sources to create the sounds: gb synth (ds-10), guitar (Jam sessions), drum/synth/ambient sounds (electroplanctone).
Is it allowed to use these "games"?
