Padkontrol & 404, anybody got it working properly?

Ive set the midi channels on both the padkontrol and the sp to channel 1, tried every key possible with no luck, tried both ports as well. What am i doing wrong here? The midi cable is going from the out of the PK to the in of the SP, i just cant figure out what im forgetting here. Any insight?

Check youtube for videos on midi and also the padkontrol in the meantime, I know several people here have that combo fully working so just wait for a day or two and someone will have the answer.

i got this combo and it';s great, but i did have teething probelms at first

this could be your problem: the padkontrol must be plugged into the wall to send MIDI out, it won't work if it is powered through the USB connection

yeah i am wondering this as well! i want to use it for mpc1k as well. i would've got one of the mpd's but i don't buy akai any more. i think it would be nice to know what i can do with that kaoss style pad too???

hey can you play banks a-j drewzle or just bank a or what?

you can play all the banks, all the samples

the last two banks of the 404 receive MIDI on the next channel up from the previous banks. with the padKontrol that is not an issue at all, as each of the padKontrol's pads can send to different channels

are you thinking of getting one jbl? i recommend the pK highly - best pads i've used, and it integrates with the 404 wonderfully (velocity sensitivity, rolls, flam, the ability to trigger one-offs while the 404 stays in Pattern Mode for switching patterns, or just having 28 pads in front of you rather than 12)

with the 404 you use the X/Y pad to control the rate and velocity of the drum rolls and flams. it can also be assigned to different MIDI controls, but i don't think there's anything within the 404 that can be controlled this way. great for a synth, DAW, etc though

So it was just the usb connection. Plugged it into the wall and it worked no problem. thanks

i might be interested in the korg padkontrol too. i find it more appealing than the MPD and the trigger finger for some reason.

just to clarify something. it can be used WITHOUT a computer by just hooking up to the 404 via MIDI and then plugging the padkontrol into a wall socket (BTW does padkontrol come with power cord?)

^ doesn't come with a power cord...which is a hassle, but mine cost $9 at Tandy
and yeah, when it's wall-powered there's no need for a computer at all, just the pK and the SP grooving topgether

mine isn't official, and works fine. check the volts/amp in back of manual

^Also with buying a non-korg power supply, make sure you get polarity right for the tip (according to the back of mine it's negative tip. so i assume they all would be.. but check!)
