Just got the SX the other day looking to use it to play out beats/mixes live.

When making patterns the drums record fine, but after i've copied the pattern to another pad and try to record something like a short soul sample loop over it i've just been experiencing a little problem that i'm sure someone more experienced with the SP should know how to resolve.

the start of the first soul sample plays fine while it's being recorded over the drums (just 1 bar in length) but then once the recording plays back the first soul sample loop (say out of 2 soul samples being launched on the first beat of 2 bars) it's either completely missing from the pattern or only a fraction of the start of it plays and it instantly cuts out leaving just the drums playing until the start of the 2nd bar where the second soul loop triggers.

trying to build up layered tracks in patterns but this problem keeps occurring when recording little loops over pre-recorded drums. have tried different quantize settings and de-selecting 'gate' but still no luck. anyone know whats going wrong? or can you layer two loops on a single pad using 'resample' instead of using the sequencer?

Your main samples are either on loop mode (this causes them to cut out when retriggered by the sequencer) or you have run out of polyphony. The sp404 has 12 poly, meaning only 6 stereo samples can be triggered at once. When you go over the limit it will cut the longest sample playing.

Tips - sample drum hits in mono, make sure drum hits are "marked" as short as possible so they aren't playing dead air, make sure none of your pads are in loop mode.

Hopefully that gets you going. As a last resort you could record your drum pattern to pc and back to 404 to cut down on the number of poly being used.
