Transferring files from SP404 to computer and back?

Post by Acey45 »

Hey so heres the situation I'm in.
I've just made an EP and most of all my banks are full and I'd like to start on the next one. I've learned I can back them up on the flash card but Im not into that, I'd rather save them on my comp (macbook pro). Ideally I would like to have all my samples backed up on my comp so that I can just upload the samples I want onto a card for a show (Having a card or making songs and a different for shows) and be able to change the samples up for different set lists.

So I've done my research and I would just like to check with the pros to see if I'm on the right track?

First I need get a card reader. Before I take the card out I need to set the samples I want to export so that they are wav files. Then I connect the card to my comp, open it up. Then I would like to copy these files and save them on my comp so that I can summon them any time I would like. When I want to put a sample from my comp onto my 404 I need to put it in the card and name it something like C-6 or F-3 (I'll find the real way in the manual). So I can put all the samples I used for that song together the way I want it to turn out in the 404. Then I take the card put it back into my 404 and should they just be there organized the way I put them on my comp?

I really hope it's this easy. I am TARIFFED of loosing any samples.

Thanks for your time!

This is my EP by the way I made every song on the 404.

You defo can save your samples to a comp. my man synpho does that shit. You'll need a card reader and just copy the whole contents of the card somewhere on your mac. Copy it back when you need it.

The 404 og uses its own file for ate, so won't be able to convert and save as a wav file unfortunately. Not sure if you can edit what pad the sample will play back on. May just be a case of naming it.

I have the sx, which saves in wav files. Makes this a a lot easier. Although, why they didn't just stick a USB in the back of them beats me!

yeah if you just want to be able to pop them back on the SP and not play them on your comp, you don't need to go through the whole import/export process, which would be super obnoxious to do for more than just a few pads, you just drag the entire folder named roland off of the card and somewhere onto your comp, then when you want it back on you hook up your card and drag the roland folder back into the same place you took it from

You're on the right track, but after you put the card back to the 404 you need to import those samples back. You definde a starting pad and the samples are imported to that pad and the following pads in alphabetical order. So keep that in mind when naming the files.
