sequencing a synth with the 606?

Post by Tator606 »

Im planning on getting dave smith mopho. Im about to begin a band and I'm going to be using my 606, and my m-audio axiom controlling the mopho. Im wondering if I can record a midi sequence on one of the tracks of the 606 from the m-audio axiom and play back the sequence and have it send it to the mopho? I really hope it's possible as i'll be doing live drums, playing the 606 and the mopho. Otherwise I'll have to look at getting another sequencer.

I also have AA1...!it's not for AbletonLive indeed! You can user lighter programms for your job...
anyway you just can't do this with SP606 because 606 only records midi notes but it can't transmit the recorded events during playback..only internally to its engine...
i think the best way is to sell them all and buy a used MV-8800...!

well, I was about to actually order an evolver tonight! I need keys I can play an analog synth with ( hence evolver/mopho) but i wanted to be able to have prerecorded sequences I could kick on with my footswitch while I play live drums ( acoustic drums) or while playing samples on my 606. That's stupid, why even have midi out if it cant do this. Im really bummed. Maybe I just need an mpc1000 haha

I'm pretty sure the mpc1000 can't do that either, but some of the MPC cats can explain.

If we all asked Roland for a new firmware (although its too late),maybe some new staff would be added...IMO Sp606 miss many critical fetures...

Don't hold your breath.
Use a multi track, jam your keys over pre recorded SP drum loops, then sample those key parts back into the SP & further freak 'em. There's always a work around!

The problem is in "live" feeling, and i don't mean only on playing live, but also when you're jamming alone...if 606 could act as a real 4-track seqencer u could bypass the 8 voice limit with external gear...
Aslo the critical addon would be the ability to resample a pattern...
I like 606 very much(really!) but i hate Roland support of this product...(no clear answer on every email i've send...they focus on Sh201 or Soniccell...blliah!)

I agree that there is alyays a work around,I even programmed SP606 for some friends to act as a controler for Reason or Ableton...but i would exept more from Roland...!

Doesn't the 606 send MIDI-notes in EXT MODE ? That's at least what the MIDI Implem Charts says.

But perhaps it's just directly from the pads, not from sequenced patterns/songs ?

unfortunately the 606 sends midi notes on software and not on hardware, don't tell me why is like that, probably roland engeneers were smoking bad ganja that day, at least is what i remember (not the bad ganja story eh)

Hi,

So by USB you mean? And nothing from the DIN MIDI-outs of the SP-606? That's indeed weird !

that story is weird, i have also the sp505 wich it has midi out and it send weirdly some nots. midi on those 2 machines it's an obscure thing. i also remember that on the 606 you have to make a manipulation on the banks, and from that the 606 sends midi notes (but not on hardware i believe)

Hmm, too bad. It won't be a showstopper for me, but it sure would have been nice if this could have worked.

Too bad actually that controller data can't be recorded, but just simple MIDI-notes wouldn't have been too much to ask for, not ?! :) :P

Bye!
