Im thinking about picking a 606 up for $250 dollars. I watched a video on youtube of Ill Green using a Roland MV8800, and you have an sp303 in the video? Do you use a 606? and would you recommend purchasing a 606 to go alongside my 303 and 404sx?

Thanks for checking that vid. I NEED TO MAKE MORE.

I used the SP-303 with the MV because some effects are not on it and I prefer the effects of the 303 over the MV. Crazy huh? I love the 303's pitch effect better, its got that spaced out delay thats makes that turntable slow down effect on samples. The MV has pitch effect but minus that space delay, it pitches the left and right channels which is cool too. 303's Isolator boost or cuts signals while the MV just cuts signals and no boost, it just makes it sound normal when turned hard right (SP-606 is the same way too). But on the MV there is a bass boost effect and the OLD SAMPLR effect really brings out clean basslines without other musical debris, but sometimes I like those debris, sounds like ghost howling. So the 303 balances out the effects I love and need.

The 606 is a beast I use on its own along with a Numark NX400 for timestretch and pitch because the timestretch on SPs are really not that great and except for the 202, they lack pitch tuning. Other than that, it has a screen to make chopping easier, like long excerpts of empty air (on the 303 it takes a good 5 minutes to get to where you want), and great to pinpoint clipping samples.

IMO, I think the 606 would be a good companion to the 303/404 but might be overkill since you already have two SPs. But then again the 606 got 46 effects, Dbeam, 4 track sequencer and a distinct sound as well. So the choice is yours.

I'm actually using the 606 for my next album. Stay tuned.
