Found a good deal - Anything I should check in particular?

Post by philphil »

Hi everyone,

It's my 1st post here and I'm a looooong time mpc1000 user. Feels like I have been focusing so much on it I totally missed the SP series. And these look amazing!
Seems like the mpc/sp combo is flawless for live purposes.

Just found a great deal on a SP-404sx and have questions about the life-span of this machine. The dude says it's 2 and a half years old.. anything that I should check in priority when checking it out?
- any pads, buttons or knobs wear off specifically?
etc etc

Enlighten me please.

In any case I'm happy to go for the full-price new unit if you think there's a "real" risk in buying an "older" unit.

Nice to meet you all, and thanks for your help.

that's about it really.. if the pads were worn out you'd be able to see the numbers rubbing off, but even then I've not heard of them dying.

Welcome to the forums.. One thing you should check for your next question is which section you're posting in

Hi guys
I appreciate the feedback. I will definitely check the pads/rcas/knobs.
And post in the right forum next time as well.
Thanks

The pads are pretty nails! But my mate has funked one of his up, making it uber sensitve to trigger. Think he puts his kick drum on that pad! LOL

The RCA's can be a bit wobbly too, but try and check for dropouts in audio or crackles etc.

The knobs can loosen up too, especially the 3rd one. Mine's a bit loose cos I keep rocking the DJX looper! Still works fine tho!

Thanks again!

I just ordered it from the guy and it's being sent via post so I'll keep my fingers crossed it's in good condition.

The guy said he barely used it (of course, he's not going to say he beat the living shit out of it for the last 2 years..), sent me thousands of close-up pics, seems legit so far.

Leptic, on s'est pas croisés sur AF ?

Hi again everyone,

I finally received the badboy and it's bigger than I thought! The guy I bought it from could have cleaned it a bit, it had nasty stains and dust on it. Besides that everything is in order, the knobs, rcas are still sturdy, pads are equally responsive.

I messed around with it this weekend and I think I have been spoiled with the jjos2 mpc/ableton8 a bit too much to go back to 6 stereo samples max polyphony. For now at least.

However I can't think of a better way to jam with my finished beats live. This thing is amazing!!.. the effects are really good and thick, and good thinking with the "effect limit" option!

I'm really satisfied. Everything has a role in my little studio:
- Production: mpc as midi master sequencer, controlling a dsi mopho and ableton live where the track is produced and finished.
- And the sp for stage action (No need to take mpc, mopho, soundcard & mbp anymore!!).

Cheers!

sorry guys can't tell all that in english :?
