Indeed mate,

Although I do think it's been devalued worldwide! Chart music will soon change again from crap dubstep and cheesey electro rubbish (I can keep the faith at least!)

I can remember back in early 2000's when chart music was all Trance music and then guitar music suddenly exploded again with The Strokes, White Stripes, King of Leon and all that awesomeness.

Hopefully we'll go another circle again (although, I do have a soft spot for early Trance ala Robert Miles' Children)

I've always figured the charts don't concern me, if something from the underground pokes its head into the top 40 then thats cool but has anyone really into music bought anything BECAUSE of it's chart position? no, excactly. Whats popular will always be there and will probably be some re hashed watered down version of something that was good once. However, just because this is how i feel, doesn't mean that people can't get immense pleasure from that stuff. Music means a lot to a lot of people and wether i like what they listen to or not i'm glad it's there making them happy. Music is a positive force in the world and, fuck my opinion of it, if it makes someone happy then it's good for them :-)

Other than a handful of artists, I never liked anything mainstream. I was always attracted to the independent underground heads. Anything setting trends I was turned away from.
I got sick of hearing "Hip Hop is dead" after the 5-6 years in the 90s when it flourished. Even into the 2000s, and well after the boom of the internet, there are still people in Hip Hop pushing boundaries and making crazy music.
The beauty of the now is that everything is so accessible, it's alot easier to stumble upon new music, and for artists to gain a following.
In actuality, I don't want to see any audio I'm digging on any charts or have the attention of the likes of teenyboppers. As for me, even with the massive interconnectivity of it all, my ears stay tuned to that raw sound of the underground. I like the grit of the dusty. No need for my music to "bling" or be "ballin".
