Too much of our lives are jaded, narcissistic, sarcastic, hopeless, debased...

Say something simple, positive, whatever. Share something, or remember something, or recommend something...

This afternoon I just sat down with my SP for the first time since autumn (southern hemisphere), and just made kick/snare beats. Simple things in life :)

Odd that this thread should come along right as I'm going through a bout of depression and hopelessness.

Like you say man, it's the simple things that get us through this insane existence.

I discovered www.audiotool.com

It's a pretty sweet modular synth type studio run from just a browser with flash (wish I could run on my ipad, damn Apple!)

Now I can make beats at work :)

It's autumn here and just the weather cooling down and the face that a nice winter is coming makes me smile!

Winter is an epic season, everytime you go somewhere is a journey (at leas tin montrea), and if you see it like that it beacomes really fun ahaha.

Excellent place to put up a first post! I've found out about people on here who make beats that trully inspire me. I wouldn't know half of what I do about my 303 (which I got four months ago at a pawn shop for 160!) without this site. And oh yeah, the weather here in North Carolina has just been killin it lately!

peace!

Ditto

Meditating more and learning to be OK with the above, the only constant is change.

Focusing more on working with just SPs and embracing the lack as an opportunity for growth.

Tho I usually remain in lurk mode, shouts to all of y'all! This place in itself is straight positive. There is a level of respect here you just don't find many places on the net.

Anyway, something positive... discovered something kinda cool you can try with the SX... note this only works with the SX as I've tried it on the 202 and 303 and it's a no go because samples are converted to roland's compressed format vs. a real wav/aiff on the SX.

The tip...
Download or make a sine wav/aiff that has a frequency above 20kHz. You might want to normalize it so it's using the full amplitude of the wav. Now load it up on a pad on the SX. I'll call that pad the "duck" pad. Now get some stuff looped up and playing thru the compressor including the "duck" pad.. because the the amplitude is so high on the duck pad, when you hit it.. it'll duck whatever is going thru the comp but you won't hear the "duck" pad itself because the frequency is above what humans can hear (or most at least). Blam, manual ducking! Use the level on the "duck pad" in combo with the comp to adjust duck sensitivity.

It's not perfect tho. If you resample your manual ducks.. it'll be fine. But if you apply some effects to the resample, like a pitch shift.. you might get artifacts from aliasing. You can always try filtering that signal out to avoid that tho. Anyway, something to experiment with...

been messing with this for years. i actually started out on this way back before it had a sequencer or the ability to save your sets. just press record and go.
