Hi everyone, I'm new here, tho I been lurking for a while! Anyway I ordered an SP 404 and in the meantime I thot I'd share some of my music with you guys if you're interested. I have an Mpc1000 also, but really didn't get it that long ago so the whole "dedicated sampler" thing is still kinda new to me, tho I've been working with "samples" for years. these songs on the myspace were done on a cdj, Kaoss pad and a tape recorder! lol

Anyway, let me know what you think, thanks for paying attention!

piano banger is very nice. one question are you scratching on a vinyl or digital turntable?
White and P/radiohead and ?chet baker?

.. Good music though, Piano Banger is definitely the best of the two songs. Basically the other one is great too, but it lacks a beat in my opinion.

Keep doing what you're doing though, seems like a CDJ is quite fun to play around with when you do it like that.

Yeah I kinda use it for weird effects etc I don't really pretend to be great at scratching or anything, I kinda just mess around with it.

It's weird you guys like Piano Banger best, I perfer the first one myself, although Piano Banger is the more hip-hop of the two, but it's more just a throwaway one, doesn't have very much going on in it.

Well spotted on the Radiohead, jbl, not chet baker tho, as far as I remember it's some obscure live recording of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. I'll be even more impressed when someone recognises the classical sample

Scratching was excellent in my opinion. I often hear people complain that CDJs sound too digital, but there's nothing noticeable of that in your songs.

Wow thanks, I've never really been told it was any good before!

I don't know about cdj's sounding too digital, its hard to tell on those tracks since they were recorded to a tape recorder which probably warmed up the sound a good deal. The reason I have one is that I have a lot more cds than vinyl, where I live there's a real shortage of good record stores to dig through, I pick up what I can, but otherwise it's just more convenient to use cds for sampling/scratching etc because I have hundreds of them already.

But I really don't think by the time the average joe has done all his sampling and effects processing and tracking and conversions etc that there's a noticeable difference between vinyl scratching and cdj scratching anyway, the biggest difference is in the "feel" when your scratching, and you can get used to that.

You can do some cool things on cdj's like making instant loops etc even on a crappy cheap one like mine.

I live just outside of Belfast. Nice part of the world! A bit grimey. Very green.

I wouldn't want it any other way. I was raised by my mother and was really only exposed to the native american side of things since my mom is an ethnic studies professor, so now I'm learning as much as I can about my Irish side. I was watching a show about single malt scotch production and one of the brewer's mentioned that it's believed that scotch production was brought to Scotland from Ireland which I found interesting. I'm 'bout half way through a bottle of talisker right now, if you drink scotch what bottle would you recommend.

The only scotch that I would personally recommend is Famous Grouse. Of course you could also try Vat 69, which is nice too.

Irish whiskey is where it's really at though. There's a difference, Irish whiskey is distilled three times. Scotch is only distilled twice.

The best whiskey in the world is Powers in my opinion, favourite of Shane McGowan too, if you're into The Pogues! lol It's very difficult to get outside of Ireland though, I lived in Glasgow for a year and I remember not being able to find it ANYWHERE over there, I even remember going into a whiskey shop and only being able to find the more well known brands like Jameson and Bushmills, which just dont cut it as far as I'm concerned! haha I'm a bit of a connoisseur in case you haven't guessed.

yeah i thought the scratching was good though. i will def try some Powers, when i visit.
btw i was playing with a cdj400 yesterday and it is really nice: especially the red wheel light. you can stop the plate in vinyl mode, scribble and come back to where you were much more visually than the any other cd player they make. still the 800s plate is larger and a little more sensitive. i don't have one i just play with them at the store.

I know some people that won't drink Jameson because they say that they've never hired a catholic worker, do you know if there's any validity to that.

Oh yeah that sounds like it could be true, stuff like that is a big deal over here! I was raised catholic, but I've never been too much involved in all the catholic vs protestant stuff. It's not so much of a big deal as it used to be, especially with the younger ppl, but certainly when I was a kid growing up, I used to live in this really Catholic area in Belfast, and shit was pretty hardcore back then. I certainly had a lot of interesting experiences with that kinda stuff.

That's good to hear, I can't believe how we let religion divide us when at the core of all religions is the idea of unity. I have to go to Seattle in march for business and New York in april for fun, if things are going good for me by the summer I'm going to try and visit the land of Ire the history and culture is amazing.
