The sequencer is not that great but I just sample the beats I make into the Roland sp808ex and sequence on that. Have fun with it.

ST224 has a lot of features lacking in the SP-series.

Pitching of samples. Resampling of patterns (songs). Resampling and recording to a fixed set of bars. It also has a very useful method of copying and cloning pads. All in all it's quicker and better as a sampler than my 303.

The sequencer is not good and resampling is limited due to the memory. But with an external sequencer I think the 224 beats the 303 (and probably 404 as well).

Ok, here's a little question to all you sampletrack guys. Am I understanding
right that you can't make the next pattern/song play right after the one that plays. Like on a 404 you can do this but on the ST you have to make a exactly timed press of a button to play the next one.

Other than that it's a great lil' box and I got it mad cheap (50 euros). Finland is not the place to easily find cheap gear.

On the pattern level, you are correct. you have to trigger those in real time. With this said, however, you can still resample patterns and trigger those in the sequencer with quantizing...making full songs. let me know if you have any questions.

another cool feature:
like on mpcs, you can sample while listening to the pattern going...

the sampletrack is fun as hell and raw as ****. i like it better than the 303 so far but am still learning both so haven't fully decided. the 8 extra pads on the 303 and the effects are the main advantages it has. the 8 pads basically give me plenty of space to resample sequences, whereas 24 pads on the sampletrak i can just barely squeak by on (although i might start experimenting with juggling the 8 samples available that aren't on pads.)

2 "defaults" of the 224
-1 minute per song
-the non practical way to loop samples when in non-seq mode
That's all.
