404 Drop outs

Was watching this video of elequent and he did something Iv been trying to figure out how to do for a while with using loop based sample building.

What I think he is doing is selecting the drum loop and applying the djfx loop with middle nob set to 12 o'clock, thus stopping the sample, then quickly playing the vocal sample and then going back to the main loop and turning djfx off? Been trying to figure out how to add more drops or variations in my looped drums. Im on a 404OG, im guessing this would be done with the FX recall/tap tempo button?

Really getting into building tracks ONLY on the 404 but still some pitfalls im trying to figure out, like this one. Any help would be appreciated (going to try it when I get home tonight).

well yea that's basically what he did. you can also mute a sample/loop with isolator aswell with hi/mid/lo turned down.

I generally do this with the Sub effect

hey i just thought of a better way of doing this.

what sucks about the method used in the video is that after you press MFX to mute the beat and then trigger a one shot, the MFX now applies to the last pad you tapped. so if you try to do it multiple times in a row, its not going to mute the beat its going to mute the one shot.

So you have to reset it.


Butttt. Basically a way to keep doing it without having to reset is....

Apply your MFX and use remain to highlight a pad that you wont be using, then when you want to mute your beat and add your one shot:

with MFX already on. hold remain > select pad that contains beat(mutes beat) > release remain > trigger one shot > hold remain > de-select pad with beat.

You can keep doing it over and over again without any kind of resetting.

should be clear as day, been rockin that method for years now, always keep a dummy pad and ride the remain button, i prefer isolator for drops though, i think i noticed that when i leave knob two on zero (for DJFX) first and then apply it to a pad there is a wierd buzz, but if i twist it down to 0 once i have it applied to a pad it sounds quiet and good, haven't fucked with it for that in a while though so i'll have to test that out again

and i will use the subsonic as well but only for instances when i want to fade the drop, or fade something in, like i've used it before to let something play, like the chops of a beat, but have all the drums muted, and i'll let the pattern loop a few times, then bring the drums in with knob 3 so they fade in slow

i don't know if i understood this:

so u apply for example subsonic on a pad u don't use, then let ur beat play and if u want to play ur oneshot u press remain -> press the pad with the beat running (but dont hold remain anymore so u don't mute the oneshot) -> then press the oneshot -> then press remain + the muted beat to let it play again?

nah you use the remain to apply the effect to a pad you want to mute on the fly, so you keep a 'dummy pad', basically a pad that has a sample on it that you aren't using in your beat, and you apply whatever effect you want to it (isolator, subsonic, DJFX) and set up the effect parameters so its gonna do what you want it to do, in this case mute, then start playing your patterns and when you want to mute a part, hold down remain and select the pad/pads you want to mute, then use remain again to deselect them when you are ready to unmute

to add the one shot during a mute like that you gotta have some quick hands, might be easier to have no dummy pad and then select the pad you want to mute using remain but not have the effect on yet, then hit the effect button to mute that selected pad (or pads) immediately followed by the one shot you want to trigger, so the effect button will apply the effect to the last pad (or pads) selected, which you prepped with the remain button, then the one shot will play right after you mute the other tracks, then while that one shot is playing hop into remain and be ready to take off the mute from the selected pads as soon as your one shot is done

just fuck around with it for a while, wrap your head around how the effects work when smashing different pads and using remain so you know all the ins and outs of how applying effects works, and then this thread will all make sense, and in the process you might even think of an easier way to accomplish what your looking to do
