secret to switching patterns sound smooth

the work around i used all the time was to switch the pattern a little bit late when recording the master, then i would manually chop the bugger out with my trusty wave editor, it is better then jumping in early and messing up the timing.of course this wouldnt work with any sort of hardware recorder without a decent wave editor.
