I'm recording my beats into my computer through a presonus usb audiobox.
I'm using Audacity to record my audio. Here's the problem:
The sound that is playing THRU my audiobox is a lot louder than the audio that is being RECORDED into Audacity.
As a result, I have to turn my gain way up (on my audiobox and in Audacity) and the volume of my monitors way down. This is having a negative effect on the quality of my recordings... Anyone with some experience have any insight or tips for getting the best audio quality recording through an audio interface into a laptop?

Is there a gain knob on your audio interface? Try turning that up.
You can also increase the output gain on your sp.
You can also parallel compress your final beat in your DAW to make it louder and knock a bit harder too.

If you are on windows, you can right click the speaker icon in the bottom right and go to 'recording devices' from there you can click on the audio device and it should let you change the recording levels. Hopefully thats it

It could be that the asio drivers aren't set up in audacity properly. Go to: EDIT -> PREFERENCES. In the playback devices make sure its set to the correct asio driver. You shouldn't have to bother with windows settings as the interface should have it's own control panel somewhere. Try finding that too and make sure gains are set up appropriatly. Could be you've got some sort of pad setting on.
Alternatively............. Audacity is rubbish (in my opinion anyway). If you're looking for software, try Reaper (http://www.reaper.fm/) or Zynewave Podium (http://www.zynewave.com/)
Reaper does have a 30 day trial, although it never expires past those 30 days, it does make you feel guilty everytime you load it up!
Zynewave is new I've been playing around with but has an only slightly limited free version
