yo, I'm new sp user so I was wondering if I could connect mah new sp with turntable through amplifier (SONY STR-DB825), cause I don't wanna use mah crappy computer sound card to record vinyls. I would like to do it right away on sp. It has a phono input, so I connect there turntable first. Next I tried connect SP (line in) with amp, but where do I plug the cable that comes with the sp line in? I have 'tape (rec out)' input in amp.

thanks, ya
this maschine is dope

tape out to sp in. you're not gonna get much by connecting an input to an input. wouldn't it be quicker to just try it instead of asking here?

So i just realized that i have to start using hands if i wanna making beats, resampling for sp is crucial etc. i like dirty sounds, no quantization, over-compression and wet' drums.

1. but can you tell me which tape recorder I must have for a sending the signal through sp and back?
2. there's a way to get sidechain in sp?
4. how do you export your tracks to computer? resampling all to one pad, and then export wav/aiff?
5. any tips for creating textures?
6. and that's will be all for me and can be 100% happy with sp

thanks :)

Welcome to the forums! I'll try to help you with these questions best I can....

I wouldn't worry too much about bouncing the signal between tape/computer until you spend some more time experimenting with resampling, because often the only reason you would need to do this is either because:

A. Your polyphony is Maxed-out....

One of the first things you might notice while resampling is that you can only have so many pads playing simultaneously, and sounds will tend to cut each off. This can be overcome by sampling to an outside source (tape/computer etc...) and recorded back into the SP to a single pad.
But really that should be a last resort unless you are hellbent on getting 'warmth' out of the tape. You can free up the polyphony by resampling unnecessarily-stereoed samples to mono (example, a snare or kick drum).

or.......

B. You want to resample whole patterns (but I'll skip that because you're resampling right?).

cosmadrego wrote:

If it's sidechain compression your talking about, try applying VINYL SIM to the samples you want to affect (hold REMAIN + whichever pads you want) and turn knob 1 between the middle and right, and knobs 2 & 3 all the way left. I don't know if you are using the SX or OG, but this is how it works for OG. If you want that fat ass kick-ducking effect, record your kickdrum sound at a higher level than all of the other samples. The more space (volume-wise) by which the sounds are seperated when sampled will give a more drastic effect. Keep in mind that changing the volume of the sample within the SP after it's been sampled already will have little effect on that. You can use MFX12 (compressor) to do this also, and some people like it better (my friend Wizdumb swears by it). For me, MFX12 is good for resampling one-shots, like if you want a snare to sound more snappy or something.

There are a couple of different ways: You could resample all to one pad, or you could just record your performance into your tape recorder/computer via RCA outputs on 404. 99.9999% of the time I just record myself playing on the SP into my tape recorder. It's a good habit to back up your samples though. More on that in another recent thread somewhere.

Just mess with the MFX and see what they do to different types of sounds. What I love about the 404 is that many of the MFXs can be used in different ways than they were intended. For example, MFX22 (Subsonic) can be used to fade in/out sounds. IMO the three most dynamic FXs are Tape echo, DJFX looper and Chorus.

Congrats on your SP! And if you haven't already, I'd suggest reading the manual front to back- everything about the machine (minus secret ninja chopping techniques) is in there. peace!
