I'm looking for something to record on.
I'm getting tired of my tape recorder cause it pretty much cuts the highs
which sucks... Dunno if it's the tapes or the machine itself.

anyway, any suggestions?

That could be the quality of the tape you use, quality of the recorder, and finally it could just be the recording technique. There are guides on the net on how to saturate a tape with more sound when using tape 4-tracks but it's still applicable to stereo tape recorders.

If you want digi hardware, the tascam dp-02cf should do all tricks at the right price.

I've used this for years, cant go wrong with the classics, thats if you can still find one in good condition, e-bay perhaps? But theres lots of choices, Peace, Duss.

I just saw one of them for 250 bucks pretty much mint conditions.
Would that be worth it? Also, does that machine have something like apitch controle like my tape recoder? Cause I use that a lot.

yo, try buying a a cleaning kit for your tape heads and clean them off after each use. That should help alot. Tape can catch the highs better than ne digital recorder can.

I clean the heads quite often. I think it might be the tapes I use.

Normal position shit tapes.
I'll get some HD chrome type 2 tapes tomorrow and see if there is any difference. I really don't want to get rid of it.

yeah the VS series are nice, i was tryin to sell mines to the Dr., lol. they save to zip disks if you don't have a problem with that. fx's are dope. i've heard though that the BOSS BR-series are easier to use. i've also read somewhere that DOOM uses a VS recorder along w/ an mpc 2000xl, no sequencing, but that's another story... someone on here uses a BOSS Microtrack, those are nice too... but yeah like what was stated earlier, tapes...

Yeah, anything low-budget will have mighty big problems with highs.

I record through my guitar pedal at 24Bit/192Hz and have no problems with highs, but for it's price I wouldn't expect anything damn less.

It also depends on what kind of quality wires and sht you're using, although standard cables should actually do fine.

For some gear it helps to record on an as high volume as possible (off course it should never start to distort), with other gear you will definitely ruin the sound quality this way.

Yeah, I wouldn't get rid of your 4 track, but I upgraded my VS with the OS that comes with the little CD burning kit to burn straight to disk. This way you can back up Data to CD, and burn audio C.D.s. However these days when I do record it, I just dump everything in to protools to burn though. But yeah, there is lots of options. And to answer your question $250 is a damn good price for one. Just make sure it comes with the effects expansion on it. Specifically ask about that if your gonna go the VS route. We all know how crazy Rolands effects are. Peace, Duss.
