You know, you can bitch about Roland, however…If the MPC series had a forum this tight, I wouldn’t have a practically BRAND NEW MPC 1000 sitting in a box in my studio right now…I came into an inheritance and thought “hmm. Might as well…”

Instead, you get a bunch of “Forums” aka links to tutorials and “cool user guides” that you pay money for, and even then, someone is trying to convince you to upgrade the OS to JJOS and again, that costs more money (like, around $75, $100 ??? more? There’s tiers and categories…ugh)…after all of which, you may discover, you’re simply not in love with the gear.

With an SP you:

A. Buy it.
B. Open it and connect all the cables and media.
C. Start sampling
D. Have a ball.

AND THEN, you can start getting into the good shit, like chopping and marking, truncating, using effects, sequencing, and so on.

Sorry, just had to rant. Super huge regret buying that MPC. This site is a constant inspiration, it's entertaining, it's a community...just had to give cred.

Yeah the new mpc's require pad and aftermarket OS upgrades to even be feasible.
Then theres hard drive/RAM upgrades

Dem dere SP's good to go out the box.
Memory cards serve as an extension of its memory/RAM.

SPs and the community that's built round them have revitalised my passion for music!

A big +1 to the shout out!

RIGHT!

And even the work-arounds, etc. that are required sometimes, due to the limit of certain features, enable users to not just hack the gear itself, but allows you to hack THEIR BRAIN! When I play w/a 404 my interest and creativity levels are way up!

And yeah, the forums here are so full of enthusiastic members and people ready to learn something new. -lots of creative people that seem really open minded regarding different types of sample based music and methods. I mean, face it, most of us are bedroom producers and have limited space/income for lots of gear. It's really impressive to see what, and how people accomplish some of these tight projects.

...and yeah, whenever I log on here, I inevitably catch some new technique or trick and immediately go home and experiment.

:) yep... at the end of the day, its a great set of gear, ingeniously simple. sure there are one or 2 things id kill for, but it gets enough done.

I own a MPC2KXL and I like it! Also had a 404SX which I had fun some with. Now looking forward to adding a 303 to my arsenal and get down on that little bad boy!

Besides that, you're totally right.
