I don't have that much gear anymore, but at the end of the day, i only wanna work with the 404sx and 1 synth.

even the drums, Id rather have 2 bank of random sampled drums than have to fk with a drum machine and the try to record the sequence and shit like that.

resample/ghetto 404sx sequencer for life.

i admit I tend to carry the ms-1 around for quick sampling and than sample that into for 404.


even the tape recorder... fk that I,ll play my song into the ms-1.....

Most my gear sits under dust covers in the lab. I won't sell or trade it, but I just haven't been in the mood to use it. For me, I just use my 505(which I got from you ) my iPad and a cassette player Walkman. Even that seems like too much sometimes....

Yeah I like the 1 synth/sampler approach...right now my setup is larger but I often just isolate a pair (like SP555 / DSI MEK or SP404sx/Minibrute) and build stuff that way, much more fun and immediate.

Hope that shruthi-1 becomes a go-to for you Rabot, I enjoyed it but didn't use it enough and had to pay for other gear hehe.



That being said, once I fire up the MV8800 and get several things sequenced (and the MV pitch/pan/LFO/filter options etc etc etc) it does open up alot more possibilities, but can lead to never-finish-a-song-itis

Yeah that synth was actually the Shruthi1

I use to rock the MS2000r on the steady, and wanted to get a micron, got it and seriously it's the worst synth to program ever, I found a midi to usb cable tho so I might retry that but still. so far the shruthi is thousand time more fun. and imo, sound better than the MS2000

i have way too much gear, drum machine, electric drum kit, electric guitar, electric bass, guitar effects processor, bass effects processor, analog synth, digital synth, casio keyboard, monotron and of course sp404sx... i bought it all over they years and cant see myself parting with it, i do like playing guitar and bass, and the drumkit is helpful for recording my own breaks. i dont use it everyday but i already own it, and im not hard up for money so i might as well keep it. i find that i really only use the sp404sx, my drumkit, and occasionally my analog or digital synth. i have made bass lines with my bass guitar though.

Yeah you're going to hate me then - I have no time and am always looking for the bit of kit that can do everything and more so now stuff that I can fit on a tray in front of the TV on the sofa (baby has stolen my music room for a nursery)

I hate selling stuff though as most of it gets a rotation but its the SP's that I'm getting into and getting into the most. Especially now I have loop capture working and now working with the sequencer is fun and easy. And I can loop capture while the sequencer is running with the option of just external or both - I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Maybe I'll sell off the other stuff when I get my workflow fully sorted but after I've spent time learning a bit of kit I go back to it when I want a certian feature so probably I wont.

like blavs, i usually just stick to using one or two things in combo. one night it'll be the sp202 w/ the dr-202, or another night a synth with the sp505. limitations lead to creativity, but i still want the tools to make what i hear in my head.

I had an MV8800 that I sold for an MPC5000 for the nicer pads and simpler interface.

I really wanted to love that MV but it was sooo complex and I could never find the button combinations twice.

The MPC is probably very nice but its masshoof (large) and I've never got the hang of creating loops on it.

Excuse me if I repeat anything previously mentioned as I just scanned the posts. But too much gear can be a god send in more ways than it can be a problem, I used to love having "too much" gear, switching between various samplers, hooking up tons of shit to a mixing desk, bashing it all out and jamming beats/making weird shit.
I've gone through....deep breath...a Novation Xiosynth, Akai s20, roland sp808, 2nd novation hard synth (forget what it was called) tascam 288, akai MG1214, akai s900, akai s3000xl, akai mpk mini, behringer compressor, allen heath xone 02 and a pair of vestax pdx turntables and I think thats it....I miss it all so much, so so much, I want it all back now, hopefully im due to obtain an mpc 2000 soon, which I look forward to getting my hands on as I've recently copped some obscure funk wax that I cant wait to chop up and loop. so yeah....too much gear sucks I guess, cus when its gone you gonna miss it like crazy.

I've gone through and wasted my money on countless drum machines, synths, mixers, audio interfaces etc. only to realise none of them helped my creativity!

I have streamlined my studio now and rely on the 404sx, microkorg, ableton and my vss30. I have just bought an ipad as beatmaker 2 is awesome! But that will get used more when I'm travelling, rather than the studio.
