G'day, just wondering how many people use pre-made drum loops or make their own drum sequence with single shots in their tunes ? I myself have been using downloaded/brought/sampled drum loops (mainly) but recently I have discovered that my tunes are a bit 'boring' as a result of the beat going on over and over.

So I was wondering how you guys do your drums so they can be more practical in the stop and start sense.

You know how in good tunes the beat starts and stops and changes? That’s what I am after.

Cheers.

I use old soundtrack stuff and pull beatrs from them.

Check out these drummers too:

Mike Clark
Clyde Stubblefield
Jerry Marotta
Andy Newmark
David Garibaldi

Google them, try to find recordings they played on, go to town.

Using just the sp404 only and not a multitrack recorder u could do this:

lay a pattern down do a pattern copy either by computer or using the 'Flying Lotus' SP method. This would enable you to delete some of the drum hits and move back and forth between patterns.
Maschine 1.5, SP-404, Akai S20, Microkorg Synth
Boss Micro BR- 4 Track, Akai LPD8, Protools 8

I rarely ever use loops...and almost always program my own drums.
