Ive had the kaoss quad for a while now, just paired up with an ipad of my 404 just to add 4 effects at the same time with a XY controller. Fun as shit. The glitch effect + the ducking compressor + the band pass filter + the reverb delay, all at the same time with the XY pad is fun as fuck and will make any sound whisk you away into an audio mushroom trip. But now i grabbed the momotribe cause i saw it on sale and this thing is fucking cool as shit. Just spitting out all types of crazy sounds that im gonna sample the fuck out of. Kinda fun to get away from records which take up more time than i have these days. Just need to sit down, make some crazy sounds, sample, add drums, sequence and call it a day. So anyone who has been on the fence about the momotribe, its pretty great. And the price is dropping, making room for the 2nd version of the monotribe i guess. Be fucking nice if it had midi so i could link it to a keyboard but fuck it, sometimes it nice to just keep it simple as hell. Bout to sell a bunch of shit just to make room for more little boxes that make dope sounds. synths and 1 track sequencing for the hobbyist.

Korg definitely makes the most fun products. I picked up a few Korg Products within a couple months myself(Monotribe, KO2, MiniKP2, SOS), put them all in pedal board case(along with Monotron Duo, Delay, and a battery powered Rolls mixer), to generate the craziest sounds I've ever heard. The output of the mixer goes into the MiniKP2 and that to my SP-404sx. The MiniKP2 acts as an MP3 player and hosts all my drum loops. Since you can change the tempo/pitch of an MP3, while using the Pitch Shifter effect, I can get some pretty good timestretched drums... way better than the SP. Resampling is easy with the MiniKP2, because it has a built-in recorder of whatever outputs, and adding another effect to that..This is my dream setup and is ALL battery powered. I got a good collection of NiMH recharageable batteries.

How much did you pay for the Monotribe? You might wanna check if you got version 2.0. Mine still had version 1, but was easy to update by just playing some sound file into the monotribe. The quad looks dope.

I paid 200 for it, new. Couldn't find a used one. No one is giving em up yet and it was a quick decision. Got it today actually and been rockin it all day. Korg does make some pretty cool stuff. Bringing the fun back into beatmaking. It was even crazy to do the update. Did you happen to listen to the audio file. Fucking crazy, like robots communicating.
I gotta take a look at the new kp's. I saw em somewhere online but wasn't really paying attention to the video. how many effects, are they cool, any super cool shit you can do with that thing besides time stretching?

+1 on the quad, doesn't get as much love as the kp3 (less effects,no sampling I guess) but has some great effect combos: decimator + hpf + delay then mix in some grain shift/rev.looper? fun shit

Right now i have my novation x-station run thru it and its a great way to beef up an already good sounding synth before it gets sampled/recorded.

Funny thing is, I traded my first SX for an X-Station 25. Its a nice sounding synth with all the tweakable sliders and knobs. A poorman's Virus as I'd like to call it. Glad I still have that.

Heres my Korg setup as I mentioned. The case is a pedal board case I got for $30.00 on ebay:

The MiniKP2 is pretty much similar (function-wise) to the original miniKP, but with an micro SDHC card slot, recorder, and MP3 player.

That shit looks official, very nice sir. Ill take a look at that x-station and see what its hitting for.
What is that thing with "rolls" on it. Is it like the roll button on the sp555 or something.

That is a 4-channel Rolls mixer. Pretty much all the sounds go through that and into the MiniKP2.

Here's a pic of an X-Station. The cool thing is it's battery powered(6-C batteries) and ALSO acts as a battery charger when plugged in AC!:

Nice, i checked it out on youtube, makes some cool sounds. And knobs are always a good thing. I hate menu diving. Gets tedious after w hile and screws up the workflow.

Yeah, I hear you. Before I decided on the X-Station, I had the XioSynth25. Same sound engine on both, but the Xio is the condensed version and menu diving sucked bad!!!

the monotribe really is a cool little synth, sounds good and the drum kit is kinda neat.
on the other hand, the fact that its 200 bucks and dont even have a midi in is a bit of a turn off. i know you can buy a midi kit for it somewhere on the inturnatz but still tho...
few weeks ago i was messin around with the monotron/404 and its a cool combo IMO, the only thing is that ribbon control isnt really precise.

Yeah, not having midi in is retarded. In this day and age of midi controllers. I am assuming that the next monotribe or the next evolution of that product will either have midi in and out or keys instead of the dum ass ribbon bullshit. Who thought that was a good idea. Would have been better as a modular synth that just played a tone non stop with no keys needed then you hook it up to a sequencer and control it that way. You always have to think that the big name product companies will always keep out a cool necessary feature for the next release. Think about the 404 not being able to record external sources when you resample but you can on every other sp machine. Then the 555 comes out and they bring it back. Why they took it out of the 404 and the 404 sx is beyond me. But thats the retarded shit you have to deal with when you deal with big business. Fuck it!

yea retarded but true. i was so pissed when i realized that the 404 is the only sp that cant resample the ext source hahaha

if you're interested in doin that midi mod here's the website of the product
http://www.amazingmachines.com.br/produ ... tribe.html

the price is kinda stupid considering the fact that the production is probably cheap as shit but idk its still interesting IMO.
and no soldering required so yea, just thought you might be interested if you didnt see that already..

yeah, i looked into the mod a while back
It just hangs out of your battery compartment and looks dum. And the price is a bit high. 200 for the monotribe and about 100 something for the mod. Or maybe it was 60 something. Either or, id have get more acquainted with the monotribe before i invest in a mod. Im working with the active step button to program the notes i want instead of hitting record and hoping for the best. Note programming is so random. This is why no midi support is retarded. But i can say that the iphone app for the monotribe is the shit. Use the sync cord into the monotribe sync in and the iphones headphone port and you can adjust the tempo with numbers instead of a flashing orange light. And it has SWING which is the shit! And the app is free. Its well worth it just for the swing function. Makes your drums a bit more interesting and even swings your synth part. Check it out.

the iphone app looks kinda neat indeed but still i feel like the features of selectin exactly a specific bpm and add swing should have been put in the monotribe from the beginning lol. if i had one id consider that investment on the midi mod cause its probably the only thing that's missing to make this little mono synth complete. but i dont think i 'need' one at the moment, my blofeld is enough to keep my eyes off of other synths for a few more years haha
