recording a loop and adding to it with an ext source

hey whats up? im doing a loop on the sp-404 and want to add a synth to the loop and am currently using an app on my iphone from line in on the sp-404. if im just messing around with the loop and playing the synth i can hear them both together, but when i want to record the synth, the other loop stops and i can only hear the synth. is there any way i can hear both sounds at the same time without stopping the loop on the 404?

not on the 404. Cant resample and record the ext. source. Or sample and play the pads.

what would be the best way to sync up a loop i made on the 404 and add the synth from my iphone to the 404 loop perfectly matched?

to record the loop into the 404 and then resample it or, record into something like a tape recorder with the ext. source lit up

that so weird you can't record an ext source and have a pad looping i thought you'd be able to do that

almost all other sp's can do this except for the 404 and 404 sx. Weird huh. This is my only problem with the machine. I have an sp 808 though which does wonders so i sort of figure out a workaround with both those machines. The only thing i could think to do with the 404 is to just record the loop in and trim it perfectly. Keep this in mind, you cant think about things in terms of perfection when your screwing with these boxes. Even 2 loops with the same tempo might end up being off after they loop together for a while. You could record in the synth loop, and have your 2 pads, one with the synth and the other with whatever else you wanted to sync it to. Resample them 2 pads together, then re-edit them to get the perfect loop you wanted. If your hoping to just keep pressing the 2 pads to loop in sync forever, might want to re-think that. Perfect loops tend to fall out of sync no matter what.

spring, if you're going to manually retrigger the pads together every one or two bars (is that what you meant?) you're going to have a better chance of keeping the loops in sync than having them looped and playing out. you can see madlib doing that technique in the brasilintime youtube clip

yeah it is weird, i was thinking about exporting the loop that i made on the 404 then loop it on ableton and record the synth into the 404, then resample both pads together on the 404 and loop it. and you are right that the loops do seem to not work together after a while, i'm just gonna keep messing with this and see what i can do!
