winter namm 08 footage(snippets) pg. 1

Post by blast1 »

well i didn't get to go this year, but maybe next year, anyhowz here's a short video(about 7 1/2 min. long) of some footage from winter namm that i threw together held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. Nothing special here, no details. just snippets. i would like to have more footage, but this is all i can do & i'm not supposed to be doing this at work... keep in mind that i did not shoot this, one of interns did, i would have shot more if it was me, but oh wells... 8)

my theory is that we will see a new sp cuz the 606's are being zoned out here in japan. i can buy one brand new for about 400 bucks(40,000yen). i have a hard time believing they would just leave it at the 555 right now, but i could be wrong.

Def try to scope the Roland Booth! You can be the official SP-Forums rep eh?
I'm surprised a smaller workstation with a color screen wouldn't be released.
Damn cell phones stopped having LCDs YEARS ago- that would set it apart from the Linn 2 -which will be THE beat machine to beat in '08
666, 707.. c'mon Roland hook us up- do something radical...

ps. see if you can grab me a pair of those Dre headphones

Same here, SP-606s aren't sold in the Netherlands anymore, only some left-overs and special deals at a handful of retail shops, but best chance of actually getting one is through ebay and similar local sites.

I don't think the SP-555 will be all for now either, because it's a too big of a gap between SP-555 and MV-8800 when you look at the devices they still actively sell.

I'm hoping for a SP-777 or SP-707 (with screen) for a neat price. If the price is right and it has the features we need / asked for, then there isn't much that can go wrong...

hopefully the linndrum II will be there

Last thing I heard about it was that they weren't satisfied with the design yet, but that was many months ago. There's a good chance they have something ready.

LindrummII probably wont be releaed until end of this year. that is written on roger's site. they even dont know how many voices there will be in this machine. and the design as you can see is made in 3d modelling software. it even has not yet been made into any physical prototype. so i guess it is still way to early to be even showed at namm. adn besides when it will be relased it may get outdated once again. but maybe i am wrong in this aspect.

I agree, it might be too early. 15-20th of January, hadn't thought about the dates so much, but that definitely seems way too early.

you can actually mail suggestions and questions about the linn drum and
Roger Linn himself answers you.

here is what he told me:

Code: Select all

Hi Jazz,

Please find my responses to your questions below, and thanks for your
interest in LinnDrum II.

Subject: About the LinnDrum2

I would like to be constantly updated about the process, is there
something like a mailinglist?

RL: You're on it.

Also a short question:
What are the qualities of the LD2 looking at it as a sampler and
sequencer?

RL: As a sequencer, it's not intended to be a full MIDI sequencer, but
rather optimized to be a very capable drum machine. That said, it can record
sequences of polyphonic pitched notes with duration from an external MIDI
keyboard.

Can it sample and if yes, I heard rumors that it will be sampling in
different bit-depths and
sample-rates. Is that true? Other than that, the blurb on the site gives a
brief overview.

RL: Yes, it does sample but the available bit depths and sample rates
haven't actually been decided yet.

The new mac laptops with all flash memory and no moving parts like hard drives or cd drives will be dope, also the new 8-core mac pro towers will be a beast for video production. My moms doing a film and if she gets her advance of $50,000 I'm going to buy and 8-core with cinema display, final cut pro hd, and 10 gigs of ram.
