Any man use ..

Post by Krisso The Great »

... Quantize in pattern record mode? for the last 6 months I've been winging it with resample mode. now I'm looking the approach of dropping pattern mode drums(or sample sequence) and lacin the rest as other channels in the Tascam so I've got a solid bpm instead of it being all over the shank through janky start and end markers.

In the past it's been awkward pattern moding without quantize- ie the fockin sample not kicking in on the 1 count. Anybody had fluid luck using quantize? I find alot of the setting don't capture the natural essence of my rhyth style :-s

Any tips?

Once again apologeeeze for the long post n shiiite. Feedback much appreciated in advance

use it a lot actually. i set it to 4 the lowest setting and put snares in, then do the rest of the beat w/o quantize. no metronome. sometimes come back to quantize mode and put a kick on the one

Buy a ms1 for 250 bucks. Use that sequencer.

Bonus you can pitch you sample and resampler ms1 pattern into 404sx.

look up the "air swing" trick its a way to slide samples forward. comes in handy using the sequencer to get nice tight drum tracks.

I'v found it's much more enjoyable with a midi controller. Generally use my midi keyboard and have all my samples laid out so everything is in reach. Just go into rehearsal mode, find my sound and grove and just lay it down. My biggest problem with doing resampling is i always run out of polyphony by the time im down with drums. Got my drums and want to record sample over it into new pad and half way through banging out the sample the drums stop. Maybe i'm just added too much to it but i'v found that using the sequencer I can get around this. Resample my drums then loop it in the sequencer and sequence my chops over the looped drums. That way seems to work without stopping the drums. Maybe i'm missing something, but right now i'm doing a bit of both due to the polyphony limitations.
