you can only add outside drums, bass and cuts but sometimes synths are allowed.

that track was from battle #78, quite lazily titled '78'...used to have it on the soundcloud, guess i should put it back up

usually hit up the goodwill in norwalk or stamford. just found bob weir, pink floyd meddle and a bunch of 80s jazz a couple days ago. you should come down this summer, end of july/august

damn your way down there, i'll have to take a trip to visit a buddy of mine in the city, and then be able to stop through your area on my way outta there, just cut over, hit a few spots, cool out for a few hours with the SPs, and then continue on north.....i'm all about that though, more towards mid summer works well too cause my diggin homie will be back around the area and most likely will be down for making the trip, guess we'll have to be in touch in a couple months.....get your pads filled up with the dope shit!!!

I sometime use the sequencer on my microsampler but idk... i rather sample what i play in the 404sx

Like record each part of the song on a track (bass, drums, sample) and be able to adjust the levels and edit individual parts of the song without having to go back and resample everything again...

Maybe define your loops and stuff separate then use the sequencer to sequence/repeat stuff in the order you want them in the song (intro, chorus, outro, etc.) then just dub those out to the multitrack and edit/redo stuff you want to change by just deleting the track on the multitrack.

I don't even know if I'm being clear or making sense right now...

I just started doing this with reaper and my 303.

I hook my 303 into my main audio interface that connects to reaper. I'll use the metronome + loop to lay down a 4 or so bar kick loop. add a new track in reaper and arm it to record then play my snare track. repeat for hats and what ever. Then chop my sample up and layer it over those previous tracks in reaper. Keep going until you build a song. Reuse parts, change things up, it's pretty nice. I have been using both resample and sequence to build my parts to record into Reaper. Sample everything from Reaper back out to SP for effects and what not. Record that back into Reaper on a new track and export for soundcloud/ w/e. Just think of it as another sampling source with a gui.

i don't know man... this is kinda tedious and kills the fun. I tend to just try to get everything sound right in the machine. all my beats are played live anyway and recorded onto one track.

sometime i'll play synth other that one track but that's it.

isn't he just describing traditional multi-tracking? its how any old school solo musician would lay down a song (a la stevie wonder or paul mccartney). could save a lot of time actually. if you make a mistake you can just go right to that part and edit it instead of a doing a re-take or listening through the song and waiting for the part you need to delete.
the only reason i don't like multi-tracking into another device is cause you can't monitor with vinyl sim on the master while you're tracking

I do 2 things, microwaved' witch obviously doesn't require multi tracks just lay down some compression or someshit over it. IMO.

or some kind of ambient loop jam halfbeatish thing that I want to be able to play live 100% and I just make sure it sounds right in my boom box, my home teather and my headphone.

Yeah basic multi-tracking. It saves time for me, because like you said I can just go edit the part. Make a dope 2 bar loop, record it and turn it into a 8 bar, then go back and record fills. Also like how you can just build up the song structure much much faster in reaper than the SP.

Since I have my sp connected to my computer where i can record from the computer into the sp and then sp into computer I just think of it as the resample to build up loops. Just main main 'pad' that i record my track to is the pc. Tedious I guess but don't see it any different then that resample to another pad trick for building songs, just has way more potential since it's not just a 'pad'. My 2c. Also added note with Reaper, I don't have to sample my synth tracks into the SP with an external metronome to get the tempo. I can record with VSTs and stuff right over my SP stuff and catch that groove a little easier.

I also do this with SP to MPC, recording over sequenced parts and what not. I like chopping in the 303.
