cheap synth keyboard?

Post by Mr.Plasmawisp »

so im thinking bout copping a cheap synth. dont want it for any kind of crazy sound tweaking for alien sounds or anything. I just want it for playing low/deep basslines along with beats. (the sine wave kind)

any cheap basic synths out there you can recommend?

The monotron will be frustrating to do basslines with. I recommend the microkorg too. That thing is a beast and you get phat ass bass with it. I like to run it through the SP's filter as well. The most character for the buck. Dont waste your dough buying a shit casio.

I got my Casio CZ-1000 on eBay for $120.

And I love it.

Over a microkorg? Like if you had to chose one over the other?

And I didnt mean to insinuate all casio's are shit. Most casio's just have presets (and cheesy), so I prefer keyboards you can tweak the hell out of to get what you want. I actually had an early 80's casio (MT-35) I sold, that I kind of miss just because it had some character. I also have a Casio VL-1 which has a programmable ASDR and a lot of mojo (and a calculator!).

Casios are dope even the preset one, but they are more for cheesy hipster chords(i like those though). Can't go wrong with microkorg, I had that and the MOOG little phatty and sold both. Man two great Bass synths, I need a replacement :(. But ya Microkorg has the best Bass in the game pretty much, especially that sine wave. Its a no brainer fam!

If you can actually find a MicroKorg that cheap, then that's a better all around synth, of course.

But I am getting leads outta my CZ that are shockingly good.

In fact my two synths are a MicroKorg and the CZ-1000. I spend way more time with the CZ. It has a much smaller sweet spot than the MK, but I use the CZ 10x more than I use the MK. If I had to choose one (based on the sorta music I make these days) I would easily choose the CZ.

If I was a session keyboardist that had to have some flex, I would obviously grab the MK.

But for vibe, in THIS apartment, the CZ destroys the MK.

Casio ROMplers have some flex if you use em right.

Casio flutes, for instance. Ain't nothing else in the universe sound like Casio flutes.

try a vst if you are poor and you strictly want to do low end shit
http://www.kunz.corrupt.ch/?Products:VST_TAL-BassLine
^ works great for bass, probably one of the better vst's
just grab a dirt cheap USB midi controller and run that thing with it. its free

but if you want an instrument grab a microkorg$$$

korg monotron is the shit

but for playing along with beats youd probably be better off with a keyboard kind of synth.

^Yep, Monotrons are sweet
But I'd say the Microkorg. You should also check out an M-Audio Venom, I heard they're rlly neat.. Maybe look for some software/vsts too? NI's Massive?
Hardware's always great tho
