anyone got some advice on mixing beats/full tracks...
i use master limiter just to round some shit off
done a batch of beats and some of the sonics are raw as concrete slabs ..
too much isolation on drums and resampling i wreckon
curious as to how you guys would overcome this .. p.s i'm not too clever with compression,
---
feedback is much appreciated in advancement

ill assume you are using the 404sx, it has an eq effect, perhaps resampling with that would help you to clean up the sound, and aslo the 404's compression only has 3 knobs so im sure you could figure it out just by fiddling with it, or perhaps an external compressor. thats the best i can come up with

when you say 'the sonics are raw' that doesn't really clarify what you need help with. could you be more specific? are your mixes coming out too bass-heavy? that's a problem i have a lot--usually i'll just remove everything below 60 or 90 Hz at the final stage in garageband before bouncing to itunes.
as far as compression a lot of people use the vinyl sim compressor (i like it turned up all the way). it may reveal flaws in your audio but also force you to chop tighter

sonic raw < some snares hurt my ears .. maybe due to me not really giving my ears a rest from music ..period .
i'le give the compressor a go on the 404 ,used to be sick with the compressor in Fruity Loops ..haven't used any compression in over 2 years cos i felt like i was killing the dynamics of the mix
