there was no vinyl sim compression muhahahaha. i know i did :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: bout to cop an OG.

is there anyone that prefers the SX to the OG?

I was mad when I realized that I couldn't resample the ext source. The 808 can and that shit came out in the 90's. Seems like every other machine just adds shit while Roland subtracts shit as the years go by. If apple was like Roland, the iPhone 5 would have buttons and no touch screen or a camera.

i gotta admit ive been wanting to see how that shit is like since i found out that it didnt have it..

is it pointless for me to want to get an 0G just for the compressor?

^ same boat with the 505 I got - the 404sx and 555 cover all the bases but that one effect, argh....

solution > 2 sp's, a 404sx for the large capacity, and a 303 for all the vintage stuff > bounce back and forth... solves both problems. They should put it all in one monster box though, make a machine that has it all (and looks like the 303)

Wait, so the 404SX doesn't have lo-fi/vinyl sim compression and the 404 does?

right

404og has a compressor knob on the vinyl sim effect

sx does not have this. instead has some like filter that cuts from the high and the low and meets in the middle kind of. weak sauce. im lookin for a 303.

if you're talking about Isolator ... it's actually a decent Eq imo

i'm not too fussed about the Vinyl Sim etc cos i never knew all this upon purchase ..

through limitation you find solutions

agreed you can still get some alright ducking on the 404sx if you use the right samples but it seems that the vinyl sim is ideal for getting that "pumping, ducking sound" that a lot of sp ninjaz have. :evil:


im going with another members advice and copping a 303 for that 404sx into the 303 combo :D

bought an sx, then traded my og404 for an 808ex. vinyl sim is a crutch! all i had to do was learn to use mfx 12 correctly

wouldnt you agree though that vinyl sim is more ideal for compressing entire tracks then MSX?

if the compressor on the sx is the same as the og 404's mfx #12 compressor you're in decent shape. i find that with attack knob all the way down, sustain all the way up, and level (knob 3) at about 3:00, it's similar to vinyl sim with compressor knob all the way up. actually if level is all the way up it's much louder than vinyl sim

i never compared both, but i think the sx might have a bit more control over the results. i remember the og being harsher, but i might just be more used to it now since i spent more time with it. the attack is still ridiculously sensitive :cry:
