^^^
haha same here. although i definitely think i like to smoke more for the creative process then the arrangement process.
the vid definitely helped my workflow. starting to divide my sessions into..
1. sampling + sample treatment
2. mixing and matching sounds + arrangement
3. mixing and mastering

Re: Ill Gates Production Workshop Vid (free stream)
is that mystery, the dude that had the vh1 show? but seriously...
i can't say his division of labor day/night session thing would do anything for me, but i like his idea of keeping a notebook and writing down specific goals. then when he was talking about friends coming over to hear new tracks, not to play playstation

Re: Ill Gates Production Workshop Vid (free stream)
thanks for posting this! I already feel confident in terms of the physical beatmaking process and workflow (don't need any new gear, etc), but what struck me was his advice about slacking off, something along the lines of...
"imagine that, when you die, you don't go to heaven or hell, but instead you must sit back and watch your life repeat again and again. if you are serious about what you do and creativity drives you, then make it exciting to witness the second time around (for me this translates to 'no more youtube/texting when in the lab')."
inspirational.

I had a hard time taking him serious for a good few minutes in that getup, but dude has some seriously good things to say. He's like a Tony Robbins for producers.
Actually, for creatives in general - a lot of what he said hit home and I'm trying the Dear Diary thing now. Look out for my world tour coming 2013!

No doubt, I was like OK never heard of this guy and he looks like he's from the matrix why should I care. 45 minutes later I was on my way to Chapter to buy a Moleskine.

ha ha ^^ amazing!
yeah, i thot it was pretty good. he mentions working out arrangements w/ a pencil and paper, but then never gets into it. i'm curious what he was getting at (i'm assuming it's related, but dif to the dear diary idea).
did anyone buy the "full-course" thing?

It's like $50 bucks for the whole thing. Pshhht. That's how he gets you hooked, like a crack dealer. First one's free.
We could do a SP Forums group buy and share it? The fuck is he going to do, get the RIAA on us?

Re: Ill Gates Production Workshop Vid (free stream)
hey glad you guys found it inspiring. i decided to wake up early on saturday and i ended up finishing a track that im satisfied with. going to try to do the same thing more often.
also big up to that "glitch hop forum" sound. they got a lot in common with sp cats. although i think that style comes from more of a breaks thing where as the sp glitch hop comes more from a hip hop background.
anyway both styles are about fat beats with effects thrown in etc. good shit either way.
