MV8000 for an MPC1000...

I had an MC909 for 3-4 months ,it was really nice machine many features ,BIG display ,great easy sequencer,awesome pitch-shift,chopping, plus digital IO for my sp606(which I also sold it!) but I never liked the sound...too clean and glossy for me!
One day I might try an MV8000 ,but it's too expensive for me since I only make some loops ,jamn and shutdown!

yes at first the mc909 seems so clean, but you got so many way to "hack" the sound...you can just manipulate the master section and the pitch section (the general pitch and the "part pitch") and you find some nice treasures...not to talk about the lfo section (also the samples-they're patch-can have this treatment) and the filters section...+you have 2fx simultanously (+ rev and comp excluded)...you can resample also the patterns...autosync samples...all this just in front of you...
...it occourred some months to me to understand the potential of this machine, the learning curve isn't that easy, that's true.

(...and i didn't talk about the synth section: 4 tones (samples too) to create sounds...and you can "improvvise" muting/unmuting those tones too, so in a Part yet alone you can have 4 sounds/samples that you can play that way...)

The work-flow is fast, but if you've got bigger projects then it's less comfortable just working for a few minutes quickly on the MV. It'll have to load the projects first.

It's not a big problem for me, but it's not as 'jam' friendly because of that. No way of quickly switching / loading projects, unless you build a couple into one project file that loads upon boot-up.

It's expensive, but I never regretted my purchase of the MV8800. It's one of the few pieces of gear I will probably never sell (like many do with their old trusty MPCs I guess).

not me, phemox, i sold mine...
i mean, it was cool for banging some beats, but someway its workflow and its "not friendly for jam" thing (think at tweaking live fx on this machine is pure bad), well, was not for me.
i know it has one of the best sequencer conceived but, ehi, life is not only sequencing ...

in reality i never upgraded it with the jjos thingy, who knows, maybe it is better with that...

You can also look for a jx-305. That's the keyboard version of the groove box. Obviously it's a bigger machine, being a keyboard, but it was smooth. I owned one, and sold it recently.

Yeah, you're right. The MPC series do seem to have that same problem.

Personally I'd say the MV8000 and MV8800 have always had a better sequencer, but that's essentially a matter of taste. Both machines are able to accomplish the same, even when I like the quantize tweaking options of the MV a lot better.

I'm a bit biased though, I love my MV8800..

To be honest the MV8800 doesn't really do well as a live machine either though. I think these days more software orientated machines will work better.

Yeah, we where reunited once and for all a year ago I had to get the travelling case for my MV. I can upload some more pics later.

I'm finishing my project we've been working on since about early 2008. Keep tuned in.

reviving this:
the sound on the 909 depends on how you master well the internal comp/eq section and the mastering section. plus, doing some resampling trick (2fx+the pitch for ex) you get some cool lowfi pearls...
