need some input on a software sampler

i use an mpc 2000xl and a 404sx to make all my music. I got my turntable to mixer, mixer to 404, 404 to mpc. When I'm done i track out into pro tools to an mbox.

anyway, i also gotta mpd18 to trigger samples and synths in pro tools to add some instrumentation to my beats.

I use audacity sometimes to chop stuff up. my problem is idk how to trigger my samples/chops in pro tools. i understand structure is a sampler but i don't like it at all. It always freezes my pro tools session whenever i use "browser" mode. Also i only have the free version. from what I've read this problem is very common in Mac/pro tools users (I'm running it on a mac).

so my question is, is there any samplers to trigger chops/drums in pro tools that you guys would recommend? Im lost as to how to get my chops into pro tools for recording.

im willing to pay for one. I'm just looking for a nice sampler compatible with pro tools...i think they're called rtas, right?

I'm looking for something similar to the fpc in fl studio. u can drag and drop samples to the pads and trigger them with your controller. I want something that does that but also has the capabilities of the plugin "slice x" or "edison".

Haven't used it much but all my software-oriented friends tell me Battery is like an MPC from the future. Ideally I'd spend a few months learning the shit out of it + an MPD.

And not what you're looking for but Renoise is a tracker that's focused heavily on sampling. It's pretty much my go-to DAW.

I looked into battery 3 and it looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll just chop with audacity and use battery to trigger the chops in pro tools.

reason nnxt was my favorite software sampler back in the day... very tedious but very flexible.

Pro Tools is fine for recording, but if you are thinking about using a soft sampler right now the add stuff, once you realize how much better it is than an MPC you are going to want to ditch the MPC and go in the box (or at least I did). For this reason I would recommend LIVE or Reason, both have great built in samplers, but mainly they provide a smoother more creative work environment than pro tools. Also you could cop Maschine and that would be dope.
